Prob not if you have legitimate alternatives and can get them.

He may have to wait until after trade period.

With Bummers struggling anyone (coaches, players) we would be interested in?

Archie Perkins I like. Silky player, but we have a few of those.

    2MP or Ridley suit need.

Hi Azabob-I watch very little of Bombers. Just looked at his profile - “a classy talk defender”. Picked with 2nd round pick in 2016 and signed long term to (I think end of) 2026. What would we have to give up? Straight swap for a player (not sure anyone would want to play for them at present)?

I think a few would disagree considering we apparently have no need for Lobb now. Especially if we get Lobb.

We’d have to give up Dunkley and a highish draft pick.

He is an intercept king but would solve a heap of problems

Re: List Managment thread (For 2022)

Is it fair to say the 3 biggest names we have attracted to the club in recent years would be Tom Boyd (after 1 season at GWS) who we threw a outrageously excessive offer to and of course, Travis Cloke and Adam Treloar who we got a significant discount from the Pies to take on his contract? A few years earlier it was Akermanis and Hall that were great additions in name but perhaps both arriving a year or two too late.

This would indicate that for whatever season that we aren't seen by the majority of players and their player managers as a destination club. We are a smaller Melbourne club without blockbusters but that isn't going to change anytime soon. Lets live with that.

Could this also mean as a rule we aren't prepared to chase players as hard as other sides or does it mean we aren't convincingly good enough at selling the clubs culture, facilities and the chance to play finals in a way to attract the more elite players?
Do we also have a challenge with getting players in who are then prepared to play for a bit less in salary for the betterment of the team?

It appears that in the main we have focused on nice or safe additions to the playing list rather than gamble a bit more frequently on bigger name players or players about to reach their peak more than we do with players who are past their peaks. This might be forced on us if players really don't see us a serious or big club.

From a list management perspective we need to find a balance of draft picks and the recruitment of players from other teams.
This should be largely based on where the club really sees itself in the next 2 or 3 years.
We might not be able to land the bigger name or higher profile players but if we are savvy and on occasions be prepared to take a well researched gamble we can keep improving our recruitment.

Time will tell if the likes of Lobb and Jones can improve our playing list enough to push us into a serious contender calculation but to be honest I don't mind tinkering around the edges with some lesser known players but still being more draft focused.

To me our approach this year will be dictated by Dunkleys signature. If he signs the dotted line then perhaps we should load up with Lobb, Jones and maybe someone else. If he opts to leave and we get an appropriate compensation in terms of draft picks then maybe we go hard with our draft selections and reset the list.

I think with recent “success” and the likes of Naughton, Baz, Bont, Jamarra, Treloar… we have a lot of “big” names in our squad. While we aren’t a big club, Id be surprised if players avoid us if they used to do that.

I think my love for Duryea is well known but if you are 30+, constantly injured and out of contract, doesn't that spell trouble? I'm sure he would want to go around again (it isn't that easy earning $400K outside of the AFL) but why would we give it to him?
Cause he's a resolute professional, is a highly effective lockdown defender (our only one) and has a bucket load of experience to impart on what is still a young list. I'd sign him for a season even if he only got out there for half of it.

100% he wasn't called the General of the backline two years ago for nothing. He still has a bit more to give.

Duryea for another year is a no brainer.

We have about 12 players on the list we should show the door to before considering him.

McLean may not be on the list in 2023 and if he is, surely it is as a defensive midfielder
Scott is still recovering from concussion and he seems to be better suited as a wingman.

Lewis Melican from the Swans has been pushed out by the McCart brothers, form memory we showed interest in him before he signed his last contract, his now open to being traded again, someone we could look at?

He's been a good performer and would at least provide some depth in an area we get tested in. Is he an upgrade on Cordy and/or O'Brien?
