Just a guess but you don't trade up to number one and get the 2nd best player if the bid is matched.

Re: Early Trade Rumours for 2022

The Age might be speculating here

Greater Western Sydney have made a surprise late bid for Hawthorn’s star midfielder Jaeger O’Meara, meaning the Hawks could potentially trade out both O’Meara and Brownlow medallist Tom Mitchell in the next 48 hours.

With a deal for inside midfielder Jacob Hopper to Richmond likely to go through and reunite him with Tim Taranto at Punt Road, the Giants are looking for experienced support and have made enquiries with Hawthorn about O’Meara, club sources confirmed.

The 28-year-old is contracted for one more year at the Hawks on significant money but could sign a new multi-year contract at GWS on revised terms. Hawthorn could also contribute to his salary next year.

The Hawks want to improve their draft position and foster the next generation of midfielders. The Giants currently have picks 15, 18, 19 and several more picks in the late rounds and will gain further picks from Richmond in the Hopper deal.

The idea for the move gathered pace at Stephen Coniglio’s wedding in Sydney at the weekend. O’Meara and Coniglio have been close friends since childhood and O’Meara is friendly with a number of the Giants players.

GWS contacted Hawthorn on Monday to discuss the possible O’Meara trade.

Mitchell is already likely to be traded to Collingwood if a deal is finalised for Brodie Grundy to move to Melbourne.

The potential loss of the experienced pair would add to the departure of Jack Gunston – who is headed to Brisbane – and former captain Ben McEvoy as the Hawks seek to expedite their regeneration under coach Sam Mitchell.

The Hawthorn-GWS talks came as North Melbourne took the unprecedented step of trading first picks from last year and this year in the one day.

North acquiesced to the request of 2021 No.1 draft pick Jason Horne-Francis – the first No.1 pick the club had had in its history – to be traded to Port Adelaide after just one season.

Re: Early Trade Rumours for 2022

I thought that Norf did ok.

Dealt a pretty shit hand, a bit like us with Dunkley given a club to trade with that has not enough to offer, and a situation where if they don't do it they are left with a shitter deal either now or next year.

Losing JHF and pick 1 for 2 and 3 is a slight loss, the future 1st basically evens it out to not be a disaster. Just need to not use those picks on Will Phillips again.

As for West Coast, pick 2 for 8 and 12 is not great imo and losing Rioli as well is basically giving him away.

    Port have done awesome.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

What do you make of the 6 year deal Soup? Could we have another Scully on our hands. The kid hasn't really proven much, and at his size I'd expect him to bully u/18 lower age mids.

    Fraught I say, fraught!

Re: Early Trade Rumours for 2022

    Jon Ralph reports:

Geelong has given up its future second and fourth rounders to get pick 25. The Bowes paperwork in which it gives up a future third was only delayed by the mega trade. That deal is done. It has 25, 58, 64. The only way to improve the offer of 25 on Henry is accept 33 for Ratugolea

This will make the Lobb deal harder:

Lloyd Meek has officially requested a trade to Hawthorn. Fremantle want a future second round pick, while the Hawks are offering a third.

No wonder they want more for Lobb, if they are saying that Meek is also worth a second rounder.

The way Geelong played 30 plus year old players can be underrated.

Maybe Robertson to West Coast. Pick 12 to Dogs and Dunkley to Brisbane. That would give us future pick one and pick 12. Picks 11 & 12 would be very nice.

Eagles would want more than Robertson for pick 12. Add in 21 and you might have something...

Dogs get: pick 12, future 1st
    Lions get: Dunkley
    Eagles get: Robertson, pick 21

If that was the trade I'd be comfortable throwing back a 39 or similar to the Lions.

Completely different situations. You don't bring in a 30 year old when you are in a long term rebuild.

GWS have made a bid for Jaeger O'Meara, but Freo have also:

Fremantle has joined the late push to get Jaeger O’Meara out of Hawthorn.
The Dockers have made an approach after news of the GWS discussions with Hawthorn hoping the lure of returning home to WA might be of appeal to the Hawks midfielder.
