McKay was huge yesterday and the way the current game is played I reckon Dunkley probably about right.
Goldy for Hunter... Probably a win for Norf but Hunter is struggling currently and you know what you get with Goldy.

Not sure it's that lop sided.

If we give up on this season, as I suspect we will listening to Bevo last night, that is the ultimate coward's play. It will also make a mockery of our entire leadership for misleading the supporters so flagrantly with stated expectations.
We are not the first club or the last club to do this. All clubs talk it up...yes some more than others. Backfired in our case.

Chris Grant from the Western Bulldogs confirms on @1116sen the club are interested in talking to Rory Lobb if he is interested in coming to Victoria next season.

    Editor's note: Lobb is interested.

Lobb in Liam’: Dogs urged to target ‘secret weapon’ to fix flaw as coach’s comments pique interest

The Western Bulldogs have been urged to target Liam Jones, as well as Rory Lobb, as dual premiership Kangaroo David King declared the 2021 Grand Finalists face “the biggest off-season of anyone” in the AFL.

It comes after Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge suggested the club would “lay some foundations to make sure we‘re setting ourselves up for what happens in the future” as it faces a year out of finals.

The Bulldogs on Friday night were thumped by fellow finals contender Sydney, going down by 53 points at the SCG and leaving them 10th on the ladder with an 8-8 record.

Sydney took 17 contested marks for the game – the second-most conceded by the Bulldogs in a match this season – and 12 marks inside forward 50 to the Bulldogs’ five across the first three quarters then the game was up for grabs.

Speaking on Fox Footy’s First Crack, ex-Hawks sharpshooter Ben Dixon suggested the Dogs’ lack of height in defence was exposed again against the Swans.

Jones refused to meet the AFL’s vaccine mandate last year and retired, despite still having a year to run on his contract. But the 31-year-old key defender, who’s been playing in the QAFL this year, has previously declared he hasn’t given up hope of playing in the AFL again.

Amid suggestions the AFL could lift its current vaccine mandate later this year, Jones was reportedly seen meeting Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro in Queensland last week.

But Dixon said the Dogs should make Jones, who played 66 games for the Bulldogs before being traded to Carton in 2014, a priority.

“There’s a secret weapon sitting on the sidelines. His name is Liam Jones – and I want to say ‘Lobb in Liam’,” Dixon told First Crack.

“We know Rory Lobb is destined for Bulldog land. Well, I think Liam Jones would be an unbelievable acquisition to that football team.

“When you look at their starting back six on Friday night, so undermanned. They took 10 contested marks Sydney (inside 50) – and, no disrespect to Buddy Franklin, he was taking contested marks over his head, which he hasn‘t done for 20 years.

“Good sides, good premiership teams just add one or two (players) each year that can actually help your performance. So Rory Lobb will be a great addition and I think Liam Jones down back.

“In saying that Liam Jones has his pick as an unrestricted (free agent), so Essendon are obviously in the hunt and he could go back to Carlton where he was nice and happy obviously (before) the jabs of Covid.

“The likelihood is they‘re going to miss (finals) and I just think Liam Jones’ name has got to come into consideration.”

King said the Dogs would have “the biggest off-season of anyone” in the AFL.

“They‘ve got a great core, but the edges are really struggling,” he told First Crack.

“So this off-season either gives them another chance (to push for a premiership) or brings them back to the pack again or lowers the expectation on where they‘re at.

“They‘ve had a leg-up with father-sons and Academy selections over the last couple of years. They need to cash in.”
The Dogs now sit one win behind Richmond (8th) and St Kilda (9th) and two wins behind the Swans (7th).

Speaking after the loss to the Swans, Beveridge said his club was “going through a period of change”

“We need to challenge ourselves. You lose personnel throughout the course, so you need to work out what your best template is,” he told reporters.

“The now is absolutely important for us, but the future is critical to make sure we lay some foundations to make sure we‘re setting ourselves up for what happens in the future.”

    Beveridge’s comments piqued Dixon’s interest.

“I thought it was ‘the white flag is up, it’s done’,” he said.

“You put Mitch Hannan down there (in defence) and you say ‘OK he‘s never played down back before’ and he put him on Isaac Heeney, who’s one of those form forwards in the competition. You put (Adam) Treloar off half-back to get run … you’re just plugging holes.

“I think he‘s come to the realisation that this year’s done – coming off a Granny, which is pretty devastating for Bulldogs supporters.

Dual All-Australian Leigh Montagna added: “It was almost like he was experimenting in a must-win game with Mitch Hannan and Adam Treloar in the backline. He’s trialled something because he‘s been that frustrated with how they’re going.

“I did find them interesting comments … It says to me they‘re going to blood some more young talent.

“They‘re still clearly going to try and win and play finals, but with more of an eye to the future.”

Think I’ve already said this but no one has ever improved more by not playing than Liam Jones.

Is it not telling that Carlton were already targeting super recruit Lewis Young and re-upped Oscar McDonald before Jones decided to expose himself as a moron?

I don't understand the bolded bit. Are you suggesting he is a moron for giving up a $400k a year salary because he quietly held firm to his own personal beliefs (at enormous personal financial cost) without ever foisting those beliefs onto anyone else? Very strange take if so.

Your other point about Carlton targeting reinforcements is good list management, not a knock on Jones as a footballer. He is 30yo and they needed younger key defenders as back-up - if only we had the same philosophy on sensible list management.

Jones has been nothing but a big success as a key defender at Carlton. He is the type of player who will get occasional bags kicked on him but his role is to zone off his man and rebound mark to assist the more defensive backs. He was excellent in that role in a very poor team who would give up so many looks in D50 because their mids were previously downhill skiers

Personally I agree with you re the vaccine stance. For many reasons hitherto stated.
However I also respect his right to choose no matter how strongly I disagree with it.
Many settings have relaxed the vaccine requirement including schools (mainstream setting not specialist) so it will be interesting to see what the AFL does.

Liam on the cheap at 30 probably not a bad option.

Although Dodo spoke to him so now I have my doubts!

Jones makes more sense than Lobb to me, but we should be able to get both.

Yeah the ability to get Jones wouldn't be influenced by Lobb you'd think
