Would you like to add Ratten to our coaching ranks?
After adding Brendan Lade I'm not sure we have a spot for him.

If Smith moves into a developmental role, is there still a need to hire a defensive coach?
I'd assume we're also hunting to replace Maple.

With Brendan Lade in place I guess the focus is now on who will replace Chris Maple.
Has anyone heard if we have identified some candidates for this role?

Nope. I wonder if Ratten is a chance?

He might be a more boots on the ground type than administrator.

True. Would be an asset somewhere in the coaching ranks.

The Rocca brothers?
Anthony for forward structure, Sav as (part time) kicking coach.
Anthony got a late pick (Larkey) in a terrible team up and going. Sav is the best kicking coach in the country.

And they can make toasted sandwiches for the players lunches.
I assume if any assistants were leaving they would have announced it by now. Since we have already added a coach I can't see any more joining, other than a replacement for Maple's position.

We've done well from taking off field professionals from St Kilda. Bevo, Bains and now Lade. Ratten to replace Maple with footy/coaching experience at Melbourne, (Norwood), Carlton, Hawthorn and St Kilda is a wealth of experience.
I hope we'd be asking the question of him.

Did Bevo and Ratten cross paths at Hawthorn as assistants there?

Yep. Spent a couple of years working together. Celebrating premierships together too.
Bevo: 2012-2014
Ratten: 2012-2015

I know the AFL world won't actually care but is it worth holding off bringing anyone else who was involved with Hawthorn in the mid 2010's until there's something resembling a resolution from all this? I mean it isn't as if there is a shortage of coaches from not Hawthorn.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

You would certainly want to do some due diligence before taking on a ex Hawks coach but I'd be keen to get all appointments doe sooner than later. We've come up short in a few area's and we announced a review of the footy department as a result. Bringing in Brendan Lade was just the first step of a few changes. I guess there is no need to rush but the aim ideally should be to have everything in place by 1st of December.
It's a critical time to get the department restructured.

He hasn’t been mentioned in it, so it’s hard to rule anyone out other than those named in the report. Also, ‘if’ he worked well with Bevo then, and ‘if’ he worked well with Lade the last few years, and ‘if’ Sam Power rated him having been scouting for Carlton around the time he left (and insights he’d have thereafter), and ‘if’ Bains liked him (appointed to St Kilda just before Bain’s left so assuming Bains was in on that appointment before leaving Aints), then those pre-existing good working relationships could be very synergistic for the club ‘if’ all those guys work well and respect him as a footy person. It could/might be a good move on a relationship level, as well as bringing in a very experienced footy professional.
