Nah, soft cap issues. People doing roles they shouldn't be and just helping out.

AFL need to rectify the Football dept cap to pre covid, especially with the new deal.

Not sure other clubs are doing that.

We also have to realise, without the soft cap we would be stuffed.

How were things before the soft cap?

Yeah, I understand that but I'm pretty sure we have enough money these days to spend up as big as we want...

At some point giving assistant coaches an extra $30K per year matters for naught....I mean, sure, everyone would rather be paid $180K than $150K but is that really the difference between having Alistair Clarkson or David Noble?

Our coach has been complaining about the soft cap as the LIMIT on our spending, NOT the club's ability to actually fund the extra...

Like I said, I'm sure at some point it matters - I know in the 2000's there was a story that the West Coast players were complaining about the size of their spa/ice bath area - only seated space for 28 players (2x14). Meanwhile, the Melbourne players were doing ice baths in wheelie bins and each player was expected to bring ONE bag of ice each day to enable this to work...

No club is at that level now and I even think when COVID struck we were one of only 5x clubs that did NOT need to seek direct AFL funding support...
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Brenton Sanderson would be a terrific coach for us to add. I've heard him a few times this year and he's a very good communicator.
He would be in the front of the crew for me to add and experienced senior assistant coach.

Re: Experienced Senior Assistant Coach to help Bevo - Who?

The problem I see with adding an experienced senior assistant is Bevo accepting such a person.

We did have Montgomery and effectively dismissed him in August 2016 and there has been no genuine indication that Luke wants somebody at that level.

    There were issues with Montgomery.

He's a fine coach though, not sure that the issues were but I do think he could be a great assistant back at the club.

Has just been appointed coach of Balwyn, replacing Rocket Eade.
