2022 AFL fixture ours compared to Geelong.

OK so I am bored today so did some research on a thought I had during the season and looked at this year's lottery (aka AFEL random fixture) and found something interesting.

    Dogs 2022 played twice-
Geelong (finished home and away on top and now in GF),
Melbourne (finished home and away in second),
Sydney (finished home and away in third and now in GF),
Hawks (finished home and away in 13th),
GWS (finished home and away in 16th.
Remembering we made the Gf ourselves in 2021 so a difficult fixture was always on the cards and ended up playing the standout top 3 plus 2 mid table sides twice.

    Geelong 2022 played twice-
Dogs (finished home and away in eighth),
St.Kilda (finished home and away in 10th),
Port Adelaide (finished home and away in 11th),
WCE (finished home and away in 17th),
North (finished home and away in 18th).
Also remembering that Geelong were coming off a preliminary final themselves but ended up playing only one top 8 side (us) 2 mid table sides and by far the worst two sides seen for many years twice.

Hard to understand why we copped the raw end of the stick while Geelong got the dream run in addition to never having the bigger Melbourne clubs like Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon or Richmond venture down to their toy ground even though we seem to cop it most years and always walking away without the points.

Will be interesting to see whether we get screwed again in 2023.

The fixture is based on the previous seasons ladder so we didnt get screwed but were unlucky.

    From last years ladder we played 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th and 14th.

    Geelong played 2nd, 5th, 9th, 10th and 18th.

Port and West Coast falling off the cliff certainly helped Geelongs run this season but they have undoubtably been the best side in the league this season.

The biggest advantage Geelong have is playing at that crap ground. Why the ground wasn't reconfigured as part of the renovations to be more a proper oval I will never know.

On top of that they never play Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond at that ground.

    Well the scenario is allegedly
    Top 6
    - at least 2 from top 6 - we copped 1st and 3rd Geelong got 2nd and 5th
and at least one from each of mid 6 and bottom 6
We copped top side from mid group (7th) and Geelong got 9th
We copped 2nd side from bottom group (14th) and Geelong got 18th

    Then one randomly (?)
We got 6th and Geelong got 10th.

    Dudded at every turn.

    Not to mention us

The fixture's not a lottery, the 18 teams are broken into groups of 6 based on their finishing positions the previous season and you play a certain number of teams from each bracket based on where you finished yourself
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.
