Nothing to see here, exonerating Clarkson and Fagan.

Re: Hawthorn racism review
Make giving evidence, telling your story contingent upon knowing everything the other party has alleged - some items of which may be deeply private/ personal, refuse to participate based on not having that request granted.
Hold firm, play the mental health card, refuse to participate in any mediation, enquiry wraps up......
This is Gill's legacy playing out right here.

Press conference in 6 minutes.
Not weird at all.

Re: Hawthorn racism review
Right so the AFL is sweeping this under the table just to ‘exonerate’ the coaches. Doubt this will be the end of it. Surely the Human Rights Commission gets involved (if the victims wish to pursue it further). The AFL is a law unto itself in this regard.

The deal they made with the families is contingent on them not seeking the HRC to get involved.
That sort of exposure would be bad for the game, I guess.....

Such cynicism in one so young ! Innocent until proved guilty predates McLachlan by a few centuries.

Re: Hawthorn racism review
The ABC are a truly grubby, reprehensible organisation, bereft of any objectivity, and with no regard whatsoever for proper checks and balances. They have callously thrown the 4 families completely under the bus, destroying any opportunity for a proper resolution in their haste to be judge, jury and executioner - the default position for the arrogant inner city elites that dominate this completely broken organisation. And of course they have destroyed the reputations of the 3 accused, who have protested their innocence from day 1 and are now vindicated.
And of course when the reporter in question and the ABC itself are subjected to inevitable legal action for defamation, they will once again lose (as they have done all too often in recent history) and the taxpayer will once again foot the bill. And of course not a single ABC employee involved in bringing this story to print will suffer any personal consequences (they never do).
I don't expect any better from the AFEL in finding an outcome of convenience. Sadly, I don't expect any better from our public broadcaster either. The sooner their non-essential divisions are defunded the better.

Ah ok so the agreement is that they won’t make any claims against the AFL. But they can still make a claim against the individuals.

Re: Hawthorn racism review
The independent investigation has been terminated, but that will not prevent the AFL from bringing any future charge under AFL rules against Hawthorn for its conduct in the commissioning of the original report.
Finally we can get justice for the true victims, the AFL administration, and punish the true crime, the improper commissioning of a report.

Re: Hawthorn racism review
The AFL has ended its investigation into the allegations of historic racism at Hawthorn with no findings made against Alastair Clarkson, Chris Fagan or Jason Burt.
However the deal “does not proclude the complainants from taking other action”, according to CEO Gillon McLachlan.
"An agreement was struck between all parties, including the Hawks families who made the allegations and were part of the investigation (as not all were involved), to end the probe. There was no financial aspect to the agreement." Max Laughton Sky news.
"Does not proclude complainants from taking other action" arguably includes Human Rights Legislation and not all complainants are signatories.

I share your disappointment (don't you love understatement ?) with the ABC. On balance, though, it was a massive supporter of pre 1972 Coalition policies. What goes around, comes around. The trick is to stay alive along enough.
