My understanding is that because Melbourne delisted him in 2020, then re-signed him to their rookie list, that manoeuvre has made him an unrestricted free agent for this off-season.

I would suggest this is correct as they are trying to offload Harmes and Tomlinson under contract as well. I'm not sure they want to lose Jordan but may not be able to offer him as much as other teams.

That is correct - if a player has ever been delisted they are automatically a free agent every time they come out of contract.

What sort of player is Jordan?

I can't say I've paid much attention to him.

I wouldn't know him if he stood up in my cornflakes - apparently he won a premiership medal 2 years ago as the sub but I have no recollection of anything after the 20 minute mark of the 3rd qtr.

I mistake him for Jeremy Jordan when I hear his name, so I guess that would makes him a poor man's Peter Andre.

How did he win a premiership medal 2 years ago? I thought there was no grand final that year. Didn't they replace it with some sort of ansett cup instead? Or is that being counted as a "premiership" now?

Poor bloke never got on the ground. I reckon the game was over fairly early in the last quarter, surely they could have given him a run.

I believe he has played a variety of roles but his best footy has been on the wing. I guess Langdon and Hunter were first choice for the wing roles this year. Potential midfield depth.

I like what I've seen - think he's a good player (nice user of the footy, seems to be a good runner and lays a big tackle for a slight guy), but we're starting to stockpile those outside, wing/half forward types so it's an interesting one to go after considering we've just re-signed Baker, Poulter, have Scott on the list and would start wanting Gallagher, Arty (and maybe Bedendo) for those spots. If we do get a young mid, it's probably where they spend minutes too.

I think he's an upgrade on what we already have there but we've got a lot of middling players in those spots.

That's interesting! I've always thought he was a pretty clean user of the ball and gets good depth on his kicking.

Surely you could have the right kind of love for him if he was in our colours though?

This will certainly help to facilitate bringing in Croft and we move on.
Look forward to Port forums pondering if playing Sweet is the bold move that the coach needs to make to turn their season around
I get the mirth around the Sweet discussion and such black comedy is always appreciated.

The reality is that we never really tried to explore the Sweet/English combo thing - that is undeniable. What is also undeniable is that the absolute pinnacle (2016 finals aside) and clearly the best stretch of sustained form we've showed during the entire Bevo era was the first 6 rounds of 2021 - Stef Martin was no 1 ruck and English was 2nd ruck/forward and causing all sorts of match-up problems in F50. And extrapolating that further, the absolute best game we have ever played in my lifetime was the 2021 PF - again with Stef in ruck and English as ruck/forward. Stef is not a million miles from the type of player Sweet is - Stef was clearly better but was also clearly older.

Maybe Sweet simply wasn't/isn't much chop, and he really was badly torched by Gawn in that first H&A match in 2021 which seemed to stamp his papers with us/Bevo. We'll never know, and I personally think it was worth having a proper look at a Sweet/English combo for a month or so at some stage in 2022.

One small thing stands out to me towards the end of Jordan's highlight reel. In the 2022 game against Freo, the ball comes to him in front of goal, 20 or so metres out. Freo defenders coming hard on his right side. Now that could be a problem because Jordan is right-footed. But rather than trying to squirt the kick out quickly with his right foot, he takes a moment, kicks on his left foot and negates the incoming pressure of the Freo defenders. Result: goal. Shows composure.
