That's a lot of capital in one area of the ground.

Surely they turn their attention elsewhere.

    Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023

    Collingwood apparently interested in Khamis

Western Bulldogs high-flyer Buku Khamis could be on the move this off-season, reports AFL Media’s Josh Gabelich.

The Next Generation Academy product has played 10 senior games but featured just once for the Bulldogs at AFL-level in 2023.

Made to play VFL football for most of the season, Khamis dominated up forward and kicked 41 goals in 18 appearances for Footscray including five in last week’s Semi Final loss to Box Hill.

While the Dogs have tabled an offer to the 23-year-old, Gabelich says he’s weighing up a move with two Victorian clubs potentially interested.

He discussed Khamis’ future with Brownlow Medallist Gerard Healy and Kane Cornes on SEN Sportsday.

Cornes: “Is Buku Khamis thinking of moving on?”

Healy: “No contemplation. He's just got to move on.”

Gabelich: “He had a great year at VFL level, kicked 41 goals which was the third most in the comp.

“He's got an offer to remain at the Whitten Oval.

“The Western Bulldogs are waiting to see (if he takes that), but he's weighing up some options.

“I'm told that Collingwood has shown a little bit of interest, which if you think back to last year what they did with even a Billy Frampton … they’ve been really good at identifying roles.

“I think North Melbourne have shown some interest as well. He's got a decision to make across the coming weeks.”

Healy: “I love him across the halfback line. He's got speed, he's got reach. I've seen him play an unbelievably good game across that halfback line.

“Clearly, he can play in the forward line at the VFL level. I'm not sure about the top level, but he's got pace and pace is just going to grow and grow in importance in this game.”

Gabelich: “Clubs view him differently. Some view him as a forward, some view him as an intercepting defender.

“So he's just one to keep an eye on in the next couple of weeks.”

Khamis played eight games for the Bulldogs in 2022 where he kicked six goals and averaged 10 disposals and 3.6 marks per game

Buku should try his luck elsewhere, he wont get a game with us. I still think he needs to improve significantly without ball in hand it looks like he is playing touch footy without it.

    Re: Early Trade Rumours 2023

Gee , it sounds like we have a terrific player there. If Khamis goes to the pies , his contesting against:
Miocheck - good mark and very strong
    Hoskin Elliott
Johnson : I see ahead of Buku atm
    McStay

Reef mcInnes: 5 games this season . 194 cm
Mason cox : fwd ruck (chopput)

There is a bit of competetion at the pies. Maybe they see something else in him to develop?

I can't say that I have seen any evidence of Buku being overly quick.

They may see him as a Mihocek replacement. Brodie will be 31 at start of next season.

Healy had a bit of poetic license there but Khamis is a decent mark and a reasonably accurate kick plus he's mobile and in the right environment he has a chance to expand his career. The fact that we've offered him another deal is an indicator we think his best football might still be in front of him.

STILL PLENTY TO WORK THROUGH ON DRAFT ORDER

The season might be over for 12 clubs, but the draft order is far from set.

There is a strong belief in recruiting circles that the Western Bulldogs will secure Gold Coast’s No. 4 pick through a selection swap for picks 10 and 17.

“They are pretty wedded to that pick four swap,” one recruiter said.

But a deal for North Melbourne to trade up for West Coast’s pick 1 won’t be able to be thrashed out until a potential draft assistance package and free agency compensation for Ben McKay are sorted out for the Kangaroos.

Port Adelaide is chasing picks to get planned trade deals over the line for Esava Ratugolea and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher, while Sydney could hand over its second selection to Melbourne to secure ruckman Brodie Grundy.

The draft order will become clearer after the trade period, but clubs can also make live trades during the draft.

I'll only believe it when I see it... but it'd be nice to be at the pointy end of the draft.

Almost. It depends on who is telling the story
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

We have been at the pointy end the last two years the same way we will be this year, trading for picks or matching points to get there.
