We’d be lucky to get 2 first rounders for Naughton and they will be pick15+. Not that he isn’t worth more but we are push overs.

I think that's harsh. Dunkley picked the absolute worst club to nominate with regards to trade capital...we got out of Brisbane what they had (which wasn't much)...but what do you do? Pre-season draft and get nothing or try and get something?

I'm spiteful so I was in the 'PSD it is' camp but as it turns out the picks this year will be handy!
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Psd was the threat but we know they really wanted him. Brisbane would have pay more his worth.
The boot is never on the other foot at our club. No one of Dunkley’s quality wants to come to us and the ones that do come, we over often over pay.

Before giving examples. We paid a premium for 2nd year Tom Boyd, I suppose it worked . Did Trealor really want to come to us and did we really need him?
Seems like reasonable players nominate every other club but not ours.

It's true......sadly. Our targets are guys like Coffield and Teakle. More money ball rubbish that we just cleared out. The only prospect we did target decided to continue to play state league over signing with us, while our good state league players want to jump out the door as fast as possible.

While I tend to agree we have for a long time had trouble attracting players in their or close to their prime but a lot of teams experience the same.
It's not like the shy is falling though and soon enough will have a terrific facility that could be very attractive to opposition players.
The trick is how we continue to recruit and develop our own players. If we can get that right it will go a long way towards continued success.

Recruiting the likes of Coffied, Jordon and Teakle are to support our investment in early draft picks and it's never been about the quick fix.

The saints and bombers have attracted a lot of players, we've been more draft focussed. I prefer us

Both sides are trying to address perceived problems in their list. If we were draft focused why did we recruit Lobb?

Spot on G, I think the notion of recruiting big names to take you to the promised land is rarely true.

May and Lever do come to mind, the pillars behind that Melbourne defence that took them to a flag *

The Cats got Cameron he is probably another good example. However they do pick up a lot of players around the edges too like Rohan, Touhey etc to support their drafted players like Hawkins, Blicavs, Stewart. I guess that Dangerfield guy goes ok too

Point is I don't think it happens that often. The more sustainable plan is continual draft and development augmented by some role players.

Look I think Lobb was a mistake but we all know why we recruited him - the club thought we were very close to a premiership and also believed the 4 tall attack would win it. We went all in to try and grab another premiership and so far it has failed.

Just big names? We struggle to get the likes of Lohmann to come and maybe that’s a blessing in disguise. However when we do get a lesser lights often at big name prices and while our stars leave at a bargain.

We got Duryea for a future 4th rounder. Everyone can pick and choose to create a narrative. 2022 trade period was a disaster but it also wasnt something that we have consistently done for 10 years.

Just about every premiership team lately has recruited a big name that has helped them win. Cameron Lynch Boyd, Danger, Lake, Frawley, etc. If Brisbane win you can add Dunkley Neale Daniher.

Dureya was good but just another on their last contract.
Since the premiership our bargain basement stuff has mainly rubbish.
