Not sure we want Simpson. Don’t know. But figure this thread is more about “who will be our next coach cause Bevo needs to go”.
I think he does.

Re: Operation: Get Adam Simpson (in a trade)
I'm not scared about trying a new coach. There could be something in the notion that it's a young mans world and that new ideas can shake up the competition. Kingsley is doing well with GWS, Mitchell is navigating through a planned and savage rebuild and of course McRae is performing exceptionally well with Collingwood. The flipside is that experienced coaches like Longmire is reinventing Sydney on the fly and Hinkley has Port performing as well as anyone would have hoped.
I think part of the reason why so many people don't want to consider moving on Beveridge in any circumstance is largely due to our history of having some poor coaches along the way but the way this game is now evolving the past, our past, shouldn't play a huge part in our future.
I'm still sticking with Bevo but I'm not as bullish on him now as I was a month ago. We needed to make finals this year and in my opinion also win a game to say we've had a successful season so at the moment it looks like a real fail.
Fixing the football department set-up should be the first point of order.

Pontential replacements if Bevo departs:
- Josh Carr
- Justin Leppitsch
- Daniel Giansiracusa
- Blake Caracella
- Adem Yze
- Ashley Hansen
- Hayden Skipworth
- Don Pyke
- Leon Cameron
- Nathan Buckley
A mix of experience and untried coaches.
Someone like Kingsley would have been great, but it was year or two late.

You could probably add Steven King and Jaymie Graham to that list Easty

Haha. They're not that stupid mate. We're stuck with him or the cost of his ridiculous extension. Who ever ticked this off should be responsible for paying the money lost back into the club.

Re: Operation: Get Adam Simpson (in a trade)
Sack Bevo and our next coach could be Rohde part two.
Stay with the known entity or go with the unknown.
The question would be can you support and fix what you know or take a gamble on what you don't know should be the question.
Who remembers Peter Rohde?

Me but our list is far superior to the one Rohde inherited.
Largely due to the contract extension I think Bevo will definitely be coaching next year.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Re: Operation: Get Adam Simpson (in a trade)
Remember when we had a new coach in 2015…
Wallis wasn’t a tagger
Picken wasn’t a pack pocket
Macrae was given freedom
Roughead was sent to the ruck as part of camhead
Some fringe players got a new lease on their footy life
And so on
The point, a new coach with new ideas can revive an under performing group.
What could a new coach offer,
Maybe tagging the gun oppo from having 30-40 easy touches
More integrity at selection
Maybe they prefer Naughton in defence
Maybe what they want from a ruck is different
Maybe they cull the dead wood
Maybe they make hard calls at trade time that no one else will now
Maybe they change up the assistants
Maybe they drop players irrespective of surname if they only run one way
Maybe they want a more balanced 22 and don’t want mids as forwards
Maybe they change the game plan
Maybe they change positioning in defence or zoning
Maybe they change our forward entries
Maybe their presence draws a line under the 2021 GF and is a psychological fresh start
Maybe they don’t want three mids getting 100 possessions and losing so maybe they rotate more
Maybe they try younger mids in the middle to see what the future looks like
Maybe they settle on the best positions for some players
Maybe they demand a goal kicking coach
And so on
Most of these things need a new coach. The players aren’t, or worse, refusing to listen and aren’t playing for this coach. I think fresh eyes and the redeployment of personnel into better positions and new energy is enough to get some improvement. Add pick 8, Croft, hopefully picks 2 & 10 for English & Smith - and to me at least - you are selling a fresh start and an exciting future.
Do nothing at your own peril. More of last two years, especially this year, will see membership plummet. But I see a path up the ladder quick enough with a new coach, fresh ideas, and plenty of high picks to rebuild a new era and put the 2021 GF and the two years of mess since it behind us. We will not get wholesale change without it. Changing assistants will do nothing. Yes it will cost us a fortune. And those who signed Bevo’s extension can pay with their careers.

Will the Eltham boys connection work? Simmo and Bont? Who knows.

Simmo brought a WAFL side to Victoria after being belted by 100 points and put together a strategy that knocked us off. The guy can clearly coach still, he just needs some extra talent. I like his comment at half time when asked if Bevo would tag Kelly. His response “that’s not Bevo’s thing”.
It’s nice it’s predictable that oppo coaches know exactly what Bevo won’t do and don’t, that they don’t need to spend time thinking about managing how to deal it. The oppo coaches can just focus on the strategy they’ve brought into the game to beat us and watch their gun mids play for fun. Yay.

Agree they are going horrificaly bad. They are playing like a WAFL team. But their age profile yesterday and games per player was almost exactly the same as ours.

Maybe they were playing for their coach. Or maybe everyone knows, we are very beatable and that gave them confidence. Irrelevant now.

I think the latter. I think there is a very obvious way you beat the Bulldogs. The blueprint is there for everyone to see. The Hawks result magnified that even further and they came with a plan and they executed it well.
We thought we could come and have a party and cash in and were not up for a serious game of football.
