Vale Ron Barassi
I normally stay away from these threads, but an true icon lost.

Re: Vale Ron Barassi
One of the last true remaining Legends of the game.
He was a gentleman; I was very fortunate to meet him many moons back and was so impressed with how modest he was.

Re: Vale Ron Barassi
Sounds like he passed away like a lot of men do at around that age . My dad passed away after a fall where he broke his hip . It was either lie in bed and be in pain the rest of your life or take the chance of an operation but you probably won’t come out of the anaesthetic.
A lot of good memories of Ronald Dale especially as a North coach.
A long and very successful life could you ask for anything more from the great man.

Six premierships as a player, presumably most of them as captain. He must have been one of the all time great players too.

RIP. A giant of the game as a player, coach and in the media. 10 Premierships. Remarkable.

A legend of our game. Successful as both a player and coach.
Condolences to the Barassi family.

Vale
I met him too and that's exactly how I would describe him. He was happy to talk to some random who bailed him up in a sandwich shop in St Kilda (me) and was really generous with his time.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Re: Vale Ron Barassi
I knew a bloke who had a lot to do with him. He always spoke very highly of him. He was on the centre stage throughout his football career both as player and coach. He gave his all wherever he was and I think will be remembered most fondly by North Melbourne supporters.

Re: Vale Ron Barassi
What a legend of the game.
And a patient one as well. Orientation for first year university I rocked up to his pub in Richmond about nine pubs into a pub crawl and interrupted a lunch he was having just so I could shake his hand. He was very generous, given my condition.
