"I was there, but I missed it"

Maybe you were stuck in the drinks line or had to go to the loo or attend to one of your children. Maybe you were still trying to get into the ground when that infamous pregame fight started between the Doggies and Richmond and you missed it?

I recall sitting behind the goals at the SCG when Barry Hall thumped Chris Grant. It was right in front of where I was sitting, well off the play, and everyone was looking further up the field and missed what happened. We just saw Grant bent over double afterwards.

Have you attended a match but somehow missed a critical moment?
The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.

Not AFL, but at Wrigley Field in 1998, the only Cubs game I’ve ever attended in person. Kerry Wood starts. Sammy Sosa has 2 HR’s from his first 2 AB’s. In the 7th inning stretch, the Wrigley hot dogs I ate earlier, lead me to urgently seek out the gents. While sitting there I hear the roar of the crowd as Sammy hits his 3rd home run of the game to complete a hat trick of HR’s in the game. An uncommon event.

It wasn't exactly a highlight but I got to Optus Oval a bit after the first bounce only to see Scott Wynd laying in the middle of the ground convulsing. I've since seen what happened on video, Justin Maddern ran ran straight at him at a centre bounce and Knocked him senseless. Poor old Scotty was carried off on a stretcher and Barry Stanfield went into the ruck, toweled Maddern up and we won easily.

How many here are gonna admit to not still being in the ground for Minson's equalizer?
I should leave it alone but you're not right

And Nathan Brown running around flipping the bird thinking that Richmond had won.

I was on the bridge and heard the crowd erupting. I just assumed Richmond got another goal.

What I remember mostly was Brian Lake couldn't get off the ground quickly enough and Minson was about 50 metres away when the actual incident took place but miraculously had the ball in his hands when the umpire looked around to see who was going to step up and take the shot at goal.

I was at the Gabba the night Shaun Smith took “mark of the century”. You’ll recall it was in the goal square. I was sitting right behind the goals. Front row I believe. Just happened to be at the other end of the ground. So I, kinda saw it… but not really.

M biggest dread was when I tried to go to The bulldog's v saints record breaking game . I was around 14, I rang the old Coon Dog to go and he didn’t answer the phone ( only home phones back then )
Mum and dad were going to the Polly Woodside and asked if I would go so I decided to go with them instead . Missed the Templeton onslaught although I did have a little radio I was carrying with me and heard it all.

Stayed. Best moment ever watching these pricks in front of me punching the seats and screaming how ****ing useless their ****ing choking idiot team is. It was like winning by 100 points. Better even after the afternoon of BS they gave to us doggies people near them.

August 2000, the Olympics are on in Sydney and I travelled to the UK for a couple of weeks. I bought a ticket to see Spurs v West Ham at White Hart Lane. Spurs won 1-0 with a thumping header from Sol Campbell.

I missed the goal......I was jet lagged and had a micro sleep at the moment the goal was scored and was woken by the eruption of the crowd around me!

That happened to me and I missed Warnies 700th wicket at the Boxing Day test at the MCG. I was woken by the crowd and only got to see Warnie running amok in jubilation.

Not quite on the same level but left day 2 of the 2021 boxing day test a little before the end of the day and made our way to a pub in Richmond only to see Starc and Boland rout the hapless Poms on TV.
