Watson-Wheeler praises hearty win
link
Western Bulldogs President Kylie Watson-Wheeler left Marvel Stadium proud on Saturday night.
Backs against the wall and with some late injury drama, the red, white and blue pulled off a memorable victory against the Blues. and the President couldn't have been more pleased with the effort.
"What was really exciting over the weekend was to see our young lads really step up", Watson-Wheeler told ABC Radio.
"Like many teams at this time of the season we have significant injuries" but to have that breadth of talent come through and shine (was exciting for fans)"
"It was a hearty victory, and the team just did not give in at any time."
Young key forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan was at the forefront of the Club's efforts and has been praised for another breakout performance.
"Marra is an extraordinary young man he had a terrific game," she said.
"He is a real leader within our club a young leader forging his way in that space"
"He authentically leads from an Indigenous perspective with the playing group."
Despite the victory, the Dogs narrowly sit outside the eight and will need to win the majority of their remaining games to make finals.
"That's what we aspire for (finals) that's why we are here," she said.
"We're here to make finals. That's the aim and goal. We will be striving as hard as we can to be there in September."
Led by Luke Beveridge and Marcus Bontempelli, Watson-Wheeler believes the Dogs are in a great place to succeed into the latter part of the season.
"Bevo is great," she said. He's such an important part of our Club ? the enthusiasm and engagement that he brings to the team"
"The team feed off him and we're in a great space.
"What's great about Marcus is he's authentically the total package"
"He's obviously an extraordinary footballer phenomenal leader and all-round good guy. We're incredibly lucky to have him."
The Dogs next face Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday night.

Re: Watson-Wheeler praises hearty win
Why would the club get sound bites from our president and then publish it like a media interview?
Odd, very odd.
More of an In Bruges guy?

Sounds like Bevo won’t be going anywhere next year, as much as the media pushed it early in the year.
Bring back the biff

Keep your powder dry Ledge. While I'm a Bevo fan and think he should see out his deal, this season has plenty of runway in it for things to go to shit for him. If we finish the season with only two more wins for instance, that's actually behind the ledger versus the last two years which were ahead but very disappointing to many. No finals on that basis means questions should be asked (with the difference being that we missed finals last year a game ahead).
I don't have too many issues with Bains and Watson-Wheeler. They're corporatists running a football club, sure, but as far as that goes they seem both competent and genuinely well natured with the interests of the football club at heart. Having said that, you don't get to be good corporatists unless you carry ruthlessness around with you to unleash when it's either the organisation, or you copping the consequences of ongoing or critical malaise.
They'll move quickly if their hands are forced. Bevo will probably move with it as well. Who knows, he might even find himself at St Kilda next season if he's available.
TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

A lot of people don't realise she has a segment on the ABC on the Monday mornings every couple of weeks with Raf. She cops a lot of criticism about not saying much but she is very impressive when she does speak. She was also very supportive of what Bevo was doing and where the list was heading. Said he would defiitely be coaching next year.
