Indigenous All-Stars game
The AFL is set to announce the return of the Indigenous All-Stars with the representative side to face Fremantle at Optus Stadium in Perth.
7NEWS chief AFL reporter Mitch Cleary revealed the concept is making a comeback for the first time in 10 years.
The exhibition match will take place in February and could see every single club represented.
The last time the Indigenous All-Stars played a game was against West Coast in 2015.
It was a previously a regular in the pre-season fixture with a game every two years.
The AFL had attempted to revive the concept in recent years, only for it to fall over.
But they are committed this time.
A possible line-up features stars across the board and an electric forward line featuring the likes of Charlie Cameron, Bobby Hill, Kozzy Pickett and Liam Ryan.
It remains a possibility that Indigenous Dockers including captain Alex Pearce, veteran Michael Walters and gun recruit Shai Bolton could play for the All-Stars against Fremantle.
Players selected will miss one of their two pre-season games for their clubs.
POSSIBLE INDIGENOUS ALL-STARS
B: Jarman Impey, Steven May, Lawson Humphries
HB: Daniel Rioli, Liam Jones, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera
C: Karl Amon, Tim Kelly, Bradley Hill
HF: Kozzy Pickett, Liam Ryan, Charlie Cameron
F: Bobby Hill, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Izak Rankine
R: Jeremy Finlayson, Jy Simpkin, Jason Horne-Francis
I: Tyson Stengle, Callum Ah Chee, Liam Henry, Willie Rioli, Toby Bedford

Re: Indigenous All-Stars game
Acknowledging that they would likely want to play, how would we feel about Jones and JUH playing in an exhibition game in February? The thought makes me nervous given their importance to our team.

A lot of people think State of Origin is an unacceptable opinion but I think the experience gained is worth the risk. Same with an indigenous all stars game.

The time for these exhibition games has passed IMO. I personally have zero interest in seeing our players wearing anything other than Bulldogs jumpers.
I feel blessed to be old enough to watch SOO in it's 80's prime but the advent of the national competition has forever rendered SOO obsolete.

I would actually be more on board with it happening during a mid season bye than in February. My issue is players being under prepared and increased risk of injury.

They would play this instead of 1 of the pre season games so really there is no added risk. Liam Jones is the only worry for me due to his age. We may have only wanted him to play 1 pre season game so this could disrupt our plans. As long as JUH doesn't have to play relief ruck as there is a decided lack of height in that proposed squad.
Sanders and to a lesser extent Arty Jones could also be selected.

The players will love it.
They can and do get injured at training.
Be awesome.

Also, some players don't make great choices with their free time anyway.

Agree. Great to see it back. The indigenous guys will jump at the chance.

Re: Indigenous All-Stars game
Alright you've convinced me. Let's have Marra kick 8 with a highly skilled forward line filled with natural goalkickers who understands leading patterns, and set him up for a Coleman winning season.

Re: Indigenous All-Stars game
I don't care one way or the other but Jones as mentioned is a risk I wouldn't want to take. Yes it could happen at training or a preseason game but at least that is playing in our colours.

Re: Indigenous All-Stars game
I can't see clubs getting behind this as it's too risky before the start of the season and even if there was a bye during the season I think many players would want the week off. Good concept but unlikely.
