That pass to Edmond was perfect.

Re: Interview With Doug Hawkins
Just for context, that 1985 match in which Dougie starred was the first time I'd seen our club win a final. We had played just two (losing) finals since 1961. (We'd been completely humiliated and exposed by the Hawks by 93 points the week prior).
I think people can forget the misery of those years, as we've been pretty regular finalists since the early 90s.

Same here. I went to 1974, 1976 finals and then the next one was not until that miserable day against the Hawks in 1985.
That first semi in 1985 was a fabulous day and as you say our first win in a final since 1961 - a long time.

The week before was our first MCG final in 24 years. R1 was the first time we'd beaten Carlton at Prince's Park since 1964.

On the non-natural if you don't mind. It was a great win to be at we murdered North, that third quarter was amazing. Beasley with a big haul as well.
Looking back at it I can't believe how many torps were kicked back then in general play.

Beaser was a great player for us. Loved watching him kick those "bags".
