    Current Player Profiles: Daniel Cross

    Daniel Cross:

Crossy had another excellent year last year to demonstrate that his breakthrough 2005 season was not a flash in the pan. His numbers were up - 2006 he gained over 600 touches, which is not a bad feat by any means. He was again right up there in the tackles count, hard ball gets and handballs - empahsising his ability to win the contested situation and feed the ball out to our more skillful and speedy runners. Crossy really worked hard on his disposal by foot too, and there was large improvements made during the 2006 year - compared to 2005 when you hardly ever saw him take the option of kicking.

Another aspect of Daniels game which earns him praise is his ability to take a contested mark. At many times last year he kept his eyes on the ball and wore big hits to drag down important marks. His ability to put his body on the line and take the big hits was again evident in one passage of play against Brisbane - Voss was bearing down on Crossy, but Crossy managed to tap the ball free to a team mate who goaled whilst Voss collected Cross with a big hit. He managed to kick 9 goals last year too, which is another aspect of his game that I'm sure he's been working hard at over the summer. One of our hardest working and most important players, Crossy will again be a very important part of our midfield for the coming season.

Terrific one grab contest mark along with an exceptional work ethic and dedication have seen Cross improve every season he has been at the club. 2007 should see him really establish himself as one of the best onballers in the competition. He is value to the Dog should not be questioned.

    Another Terrific thread McMahon#23

He comes from a footballing family. His father played for decades for his club in Albury and was a stalwart.

We picked Crossy up bottom age and his first year was spent completing Year 12. Picked up in the same draft as McMahon and Birss, both of whom broke into the seniors well before he did. Once he got the chance he has just got better and better and would be one of the first picked each week. Now exudes an infectious confidence; gives me the feeling that he is bound for glory.

Crossy is a totally dedicated player, with great courage who has real pride in his football and works very hard to improve; his kicking has not only got more penetration these days but his accuracy is also much improved. His marking is a feature; backs into packs in defence as if he was a 200cm+ ruckman.

One of the leaders on the track. If every player on the list was as focussed and worked as hard as Crossy we would have no problems. Has become a role model for the younger players and a true Bulldog in the best of the tradition.

Quality player who turned his career around initially on his work ethic and athleticism and then on his own unique ability. I don't think there is too many players in the competition comparable to the things Cross does.

Well done McMahon#23 because these 2007 season player profiles are a very good read.
