Great article, and even though I don't live in the West, I can relate to the people, and the story.
All of this just went straight through to the keeper.
I'm sure its a top article to those who find it relevent though.

Great read and Julia is also my federal member and am happy she is a bulldog. So sick and bloody tired of the leading pollies following the Cats and the pies.
bulldogs are forever not just when they are winning
Great read.
Not to far from the truth.
Although it was mostly scotch at the workies.

I had some of the same thoughts. No doubt he can write and he is trying to convey something about a particular type and a particular era, both of which are stereotypes and exist more in imagination than in reality, although to be fair there are aspects which ring true.
I'm not overly critical because the people in the 1950s and 1960s with whom I watched games at the Western Oval could be oversimplified as being like that. But I knew them in all their complexity and when I went to University I discovered they were no different from the rest of seething humanity, except for the fact that they probably cared more for their neighbours and friends, but then I am getting into my own oversimplifications and getting close to stereotyping.
