To not get on the park through injury for pretty much 3 years and another club wants you is a great effort . He has definitely eked out his last three years to still be wanted . That’s amazing. And he wouldn’t be young , close to 30 ?

I was very pissed to see him leave after the GF win. He was great for us in the finals, particularly in the Big One. Understand the reason he went but it was a bitter pill for me to swallow.

I think there are much better options at Essendon than Kelly who has played 148 games and after his first 3 years has averaged near 20 games a season.
Phillips and Stewart were elite ekers but unfortunately have retired/been delisted respectively.
From what's left we still have some juicy options:
Will Setterfield 7 years, 3 clubs, just 67 games as a non ruckman or KP player is text book eking.
Sam Weideman 8 years, 2 clubs, 75 games.
Both being top 10 picks makes their ekering even more impressive.

Let's not forget he went from Werribee, to Footscray, to Central Districts SANFL all in a few years prior to getting to Geelong.
He's arguably an eker hall of famer at VFL and AFL level.

Re: The official Sam Reid/Daniel Currie Memorial Eker Thread
Is it now time for Joel Hamling to be added to this prestigious list?
3 years at Geelong - no games
2 years at the Bulldogs for 23 games (and a flag)
6 years at Fremantle for 68 games
Now he's signed a 2 year deal at Sydney

I refer you to my post on the previous page. It's certainly arguable but in my opinion injury ekers aren't true ekers.

I do not own the term 'Eker' but when I created it, it was going for as long as possible without being seen as a gun (AA nominations etc). I reckon playing a lot of games hurts, playing a lot of state league footy helps etc. Hamling is an Eker for sure but would be more of an Eker if he were playing WAFL/VFL instead of injured.

It is an irrational list move, and it would make perfect sense to cut him and say thanks for the memories, but nothing would please me more than if we delisted Roarke and re-rookied him.
I rate non-ruck ekers extremely highly, and if Roarke managed to get another contract he would truly enter the realm of eker HoF territory.

Roarke must hold the all time record for the longest time on a rookie list? 9 years for 47 games, whilst he has had his share of injury issues you couldn't claim that they certainly cost him a large number of senior games as he has rarely pushed into the best 22. He may already be our greatest ever eker, even if he doesn't return next season.

Yep, bonus points for non-back up rucks.

Next lot
Cats- Jed Bews (played plenty of games and not meant to be an insult but 11 years at a constant serviceable level)
Suns- Rory Atkins (11 years at 2 clubs)
Orange Team- Lachlan Keefe (legendary status. 15 years, 2 clubs, delisted free-agent, 111 games)
Hawks- Sam Frost (11 years, 2 clubs, I think a true Eker with his (lack thereof a?) skillset.

Had some good seasons at the Crows, but after 4 games in 2020 was signed by Gold Coast as a UFA on a 5 year $2 million contract - then while fully fit played 8 games, 9 games and this year 17 games. That five year deal was...generous.
