I know items come up in Ebay from time to time, but I thought that I would share this one with you. If only I had the money.

I am a bit skeptical about that.

Peter Box is well known as a recluse who hasn't had anything to do with the club in many years.

Box had a major disagreement with Whitten and has refused to have anything to do with the club since.

He did not, however, have an issue with Jack Collins who made several attempt to bring him back into the fold. It is possible that he relented to sign the photo as it was to be presented to Jack.

Can you elaborate on that? What was the falling out over?

Usually teammates only ever fall out over women.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I think there might have been a couple of things but at the centre of the issue was that Box wanted to play CHF. So did EJ.

Box got a clearance to Camberwell - then went home to Albury never to be seen near the Whitten Oval again.

Box won the Brownlow Medal in 1956

Whitten was the greatest footballer of all time.

That's a little less juicy than I was hoping it would be!

I have heard rumours that a dvd/vidio exists of [some/part] of the 54 G. Final. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so about source/availability?

Not my memory of it at all EJ. My recollection, probably faulty was that after 1954 Box demanded he play in the centre where Don Ross had been doing well. Box although he managed quite well was never big enough for CHF and he got caught by the less talented bigger players who specialised in slowing down talented ball winners in the prop and cock style of play then used. He was correct that he was a better centreman than a CHF but if my memory is correct that's not where the team needed him.

And I think there was some scandal as well which was made into a virtual hanging offence by one of the tabloids then heavily into such matters.

He certainly may have felt let down by the club and not supported in his hour of need as it were and Ted may have had a hand in it, I can't comment on either of those matters as I have no knowledge of them.

The central issue was certainly over a position whether that was centre or CHF, I'm not entirely sure either. And there was no doubt that his dispute was with Whitten.

I do recall the Truth thing but forget the details - as Two Dogs suggested, it no doubt involved a female but was of minor consequence.

That is what I heard and only in the last couple of years by someone who was training with the Club at the time. It also was the "main" issue.

I have a copy of this, its probably a little more than half of the match, but some of each quarter and hosted by Ted Whitten. It seems to be a home movie and probably taken by a Melbourne supporter. I don't know if any other versions exist.

If you enquired of people on the "Footscray Not Western Bulldogs" web site the people there may be able to direct you to a copy.
