    30 Years of the Coodebeens

They began in 1981 on 3RRR and have twice moved to 3AW. It is now broadcast primarily on 774 ABC Melbourne and ABC Victoria. Its current members are Jeff Richardson, Ian Cover, Greg Champion and Billy Baxter). Former members of the group include Tony Leonard and Simon Whelan (now a Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria).

I thought their golden years were in the 1980's, particularly Tony's talkback........ favourites being Digger and Timmy, and Massive. Greg Champions songs were also very good in the 1980's.

I don't know about other woofers but I don't listen to them too much these days, especially since Tony and Simon left. However, they must be commended for lasting 30 years, congratulations Coodabeens.

Thanks for that, Bornadog, it certainly brings back some good memories, driving to games while listening to them.

    I loved Timmy and Massive
For those who were always the underdogs and wore it as a badge of honour.

I've got a box somewhere at home with tapes of every program they did in 1985. Saturday mornings were a ripper back then-Lawyers, guns and money, the coodabeens, Punter to Punter and then the movie review show I cant remember the name of.
Have you been reading those Roddy Doyle books again, Dougal!?

I still listen to them a fair bit. It's probably not as good as it was but still better than a lot of what passes for football based entertainment. The Coodabeens leading into Gerard Whately hosting the ABC pre-game is still the best way to spend a Saturday pre-football.

Thumbs up Re: 30 Years of the Coodebeens

Just loved the Coodabeens in the day taped every episode in the 80's . Tony's a massive Bulldog [lived in Gordon st]. I loved the old VFA segment with George Stone and Phil Cleary. They've dropped off without Tony and Simon but gotta be comended for 30 great years in radio
