Aker - Sherrin's not up to standard

Jason Akermanis - Herald Sun - 7 April

IT'S time for an AFL investigation into the air conveyances that have been taken for granted in the league for 113 years.

What on earth has happened to Sherrin footballs? All clubs are supplied with footballs from the same Sherrin factory in Melbourne.

They are made to a strict code and the Sherrin people take their responsibilities very seriously.

I have been to the factory and have found Sherrin's people to be a very good bunch to work with. But the whispers among players are starting to become roars of complaint about the new balls being delivered. Most seem heavier, fatter and more slippery.

Aker needs to do a bit of research before he writes an article.

The clubs are allowed to use the balls in the warm up. Carlton are one club that use them in their warm up.
For those who were always the underdogs and wore it as a badge of honour.

Aker's got more excuses than a pregnant nun!

I love Aker's work, but is that what they call a "slow news day"??

The Bulldogs obviously believe that they aren't allowed to as Gilbee complained about a similar thing last year.

Happy for him to fulfil his media contracts with fluff like this - rather than accusing the opposition of using drugs.

I'd imagine the club would be happy for him to be writing articles like this all year long, no ammunition for opposition sides or players and no inner secrets revealed.

Actually I have commented to a few that the balls have looked flat when being kicked, and that the bounce of the ball has been overly erratic. Maybe Aker has a point to make. Remember he is a straight shooter, in more ways than one, and with what I have seen the ball do so far, He may have a Valid point.

    Sherrin same as ever

Sam Edmund - Herald Sun - 8 April

SHERRIN says its footballs are the same today as they have ever been.

The famous manufacturer yesterday claimed its product was still made to meet the same strict AFL weight, shape and leather density guidelines.

Sherrin's clarification comes after Western Bulldogs star Jason Akermanis used his Herald Sun column to argue the 2010 footy was "fatter, heavier and more slippery".

They would say that they have a lot to lose. I agree with the players, they know how a ball feels.
