I'm sure that I am not the only one who thought at the time that there was more to this story.....as much as i dislike the player involved we should not jump to any conclusions. Police admit that former cop who alleges Stephen Milne rape charge case collapsed amid threats made complaint years ago

UPDATE 10.15am: POLICE now admit the lead investigator of a Saints rape charge did complain about interference by senior police before making his concerns public yesterday.

Former detective Sen-Det Scott Gladman claims that a 2004 rape charge against Saints star Stephen Milne collapsed amid a campaign of threats and intimidation from inside Victoria Police and by powerful club backers.

And in an embarrassing backflip, just hours after releasing an official statement that Sen-Det Gladman had never made a complaint, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Crime Steve Fontana has revealed concerns were raised with an unnamed assistant commissioner six years ago about interference in the investigation.

I think it is important to take note that in all this the policeman isn't saying that Milne would have been charged if there was no outside interference.

Very interesting article from a few years ago. This court case did not make big news and the sexual assault was never investigated by the AFL.
