    Bulldogs nurturing their promising pups

    November 16, 2010

JACK Johnson is on the Western Bulldogs' radar. Not the American surfer/guitarist, the five-year-old son of Brad, the recently retired Dogs captain. So, too, is Riley Morris. He is two.

The pair are on the list of 23 pups who are, theoretically at least, available to the Dogs under the father-son rule over the next 16 years.

On Thursday, when their names are read out at the national draft, Mitch Wallis and Tom Liberatore will officially join the club their fathers played for.

Advertisement: Story continues below In a time of diluted drafts due to the two new clubs entering the AFL, the fact the club only had to give up the relatively low offerings of picks 22 and 41 to secure them reinforces the value the father-son rule offers clubs.

Interesting kids names chosen by Scotty West.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Rohan Smith's son should also be on that list, he would be about 12 and is showing some promise.

I hope I live long enough to see them all play for the red, white and blue!

They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

A private school thing, my school did the same(Ballarat Grammar) whenever we were on public display and it was summer uniform time. I was wondering where is Will's tie.

It's a shame that we couldn't had another 20 yo ruckman on our list (under the F&S rule) in Joseph Groenewegen - 198cm ruckman.

It would have been nice to hear a match commentator call
'Groenewegen palms the ball to Liberatore who delivers the ball onto the chest of Wallis, who in turn spears a pass to Cordy leading out of the goal square'.

    Music to my ears!

We could, he's in the draft again this year. Would be around our picks, but if he can't cut it i don't want us going down the Collingwood path of recruiting every son of a friends daughters' dog who once saw them play.

Agree totally - Joseph, like every other player must earn a place on our list.

It's just that we haven't had too many tall sons of past players available.
