Dogs not concerned as Lake has more surgery

Jennifer Witham - AFL Website. - 30 November

THE WESTERN Bulldogs are adamant All-Australian full back Brian Lake has not suffered a setback in his recovery from hip surgery despite requiring a second operation on Monday.*

Lake, 28, has gone under the knife three times this pre-season; twice on his hip and once on his knee, which revealed more damage than initially thought.

However, the Dogs remain confident Lake will be available for round one of the 2011 home-and-away season and possibly the later stages of the NAB Cup.

No rush Brian, we need you fully fit in September not February.
    The curse is dead.

Let's hope there's nothing to worry about as they suggest, if there is one player at the club we can't replace it's Lake- He is essential.

At least he plays at full back and not in the middle, so the lack of a pre-season won't ruin his season

Agree, September is more important than March for us to have a fully fit Bwian in the team. Best of luck with your recovery!

Brian hasn't had further hip surgery.

He initially hurt his shoulder in the collision with Tom Williams in our final v Collingwood.

With pre season training he had felt a little sore lifting weights & it was his shoulder he had operated on.

"Lukas Markovic has been recruited for that role so he'll be able to show his wares in the NAB Cup. He's just getting over a shoulder operation so he's doing the running and is not too far off ball work.

Lake has a history of hip problems, which Dean says stems from his unusual gait.

"One of his strengths is his power and speed but the way he walks ... when you walk behind him he walks like a child walking with pitched toes," he said.

"It enables him to get terrific speed and power but it throws his body out of whack.

How can we teach Markovic to walk like Brian? Might improve his speed.

Hard to apologise and provide the update in 140 characters.

Be interestested to understand if if the confusion was originated from the club press release, poor journalism, or the update is a scoop uncovering a cloak and dagger cover up.
