Western Bulldogs mix training and adventure in Queenstown

    Liz Proctor
    05 Dec 2010

Hunky Aussie Rules players from the Western Bulldogs have arrived in Queenstown for a pre-season training camp.

The 45-strong squad jetted into the resort yesterday – and were hitting the Lakes Leisure facilities at Queenstown Events Centre on Sunday morning.

Punters can check out the Bulldogs during morning training sessions until Thursday.

While trainings are on the schedule, girls and grog are out – though the ‘adventure camp’ won’t be all work.

The Melbourne-based players will get a taste of the resort’s adventure activities, including jetboating, a canyon swing, hiking, frisbee golf and chowing down a traditional Maori hangi.

The squad will also embark on a day-long adventure race on Friday – white water rafting, mountain biking, trekking and problem solving finishing on top of the Bob’s Peak gondola, followed by an awards dinner that night.

The team jets back across the Tasman on Saturday.

Some pictures from the Herald Sun site here. Not many, but worth a look.

Well, yes, as a general rule, I would have to agree! I know it's not politically correct......

I think Murph has had that for a while. I could be wrong, but I think he mentioned it in one of his articles.

He showed it on before the game 2 years ago, so he's had it for a while.

Just saw Mitch Hahn on channel 10 news who said that Big Barry has to harden up as he wouldn't bungee jump. Everyone has their weakness...even heaven help us Bazza.

Looks like Kelly Underwood from 10 travel with them. I think I've seen something on 10 news everynight this week from NZ.

BUMP. Whilst trawling the 'net for nothing in particular (I'm on holidays WHOO HOO!) I found this article and pic of the NZ training camp. Note the prevalence of budgie smugglers (not a good look fellas!) and the appearance of backman Ryan "Smith" Hargrave.
