THE Western Bulldogs two days ago unveiled an ambitious five-year plan to the AFL just hours before sealing a new three-year major sponsorship deal potentially worth $6.5 million to the once-embattled club.

The club's new chief executive Simon Garlick and president David Smorgon told the AFL on Monday that they hoped to secure an extended long-term sponsorship arrangement with Mission Foods before moving into a significant new stage of their own debt-reduction plan and then reaching a new agreement with Etihad Stadium. The new Mission Foods agreement was signed on Monday night with the club moving from the bottom of the AFL club ladder in terms of major sponsorship to the league's middle ranks. The new deal runs from 2012 until 2014 with a further option extending it until 2016.
