Wallis in strong bid for his Bulldogs debut

Jon Pierek - The Age - 7 April

ALREADY buoyed by the return of defensive stalwarts Brian Lake and Lindsay Gilbee, the Western Bulldogs could yet unveil boom youngster Mitch Wallis against a Gold Coast unit that will begin Saturday's clash as one of the biggest outsiders in AFL history.

Bulldogs football manager James Fantasia last night said Wallis was in the preliminary squad for the clash at Etihad Stadium but a final decision would be made today.

Wallis was an emergency in the Bulldogs' thumping win over the Brisbane Lions last Sunday and the versatile midfielder strengthened his claims for a call-up by being among the best for VFL affiliate Williamstown against Werribee.

I hope Wallis gets a run, even if it's as a sub. Would love to see Wallis and Libba in a centre bounce with Roughy in the ruck.

Can't wait to see Mitch out there with the boys! Whether it's this week or later, I'm not fussed. I wonder who will miss out for Lake and Gilbee?

Might use him as a sub for Libba if anything I reckon.

Mark Stevens tweeted that it won't happen this week, 'close but no cigar' was what he said. He's usually on the money.

Hope he does get a run soon.
Even if it is to stop the papers printing the same headline about his debut each week.
Not under much pressure after Libba Jnrs first couple.
Would help settle his nerves and take a bit of pressure of if he plays this week.

    Don't think he'll play.
Lake and Gilbee for Markovic and Stack

It would be a pity to see Markovic go as the more senior games he gets the better he will become. His presence would also help release Lake if he needs to go forward at some stage although this wouldn't be needed on Saturday you would think.
I would prefer to see Djerrkura go given the number of midfielders in the team. Our backline is still a concern and therefore would prefer to see Markovic retained to give us added height.
Still to be convinced about Williams when you make comparisons with the likes of Maxwell at Collingwood and Taylor at Geelong.
