Re: The who do we want and what will it take thread

I haven't seen Butcher play since his junior days, but from memory he looked like an upgrade from Aaron Cornelius in everything except for his kicking. He's had the same sort of start as Cornelius but I think he's a much better player. I think there might be some question marks over his fitness though.

Majak has improved immeasurably this season (much more than North ever thought possible) and is absolutely ready for senior action. He won't be seeing too much of that with Goldy, McIntosh and Petrie ahead of him at Norf. We need athletisicm in our ruck dept and Daw fills that need.
Like this thinking Sedat. Also has good Western Suburbs community angle. The few clips I saw of him showed he can move and is extremely atheltic.

I don't think trading for a ruckman should be our no 1 priority at the trade table this year. If we can't cobble together an effective ruck combo between Minson, Roughy, Ayce and perhaps Tommy & Jones to pinch hit occasionally, we've picked the worng coach.
Yes, but his name is Majak Daw! It doesnt get any better than that.

    Is he contracted?

    AGood post / observation.
At times, with Higgins I would rather he didn't go for the tackle, but just herd the opponent,

Lack of speed is a real issue for us. So having a look at fast, goal hungry players.

Guys how about this Port Adelaide ( SANFL ) player? In the Jeff Garlett mold, good in the air, great speed and work ethic

    Terry Milera

Has snagged goal of the day four or five times in 2011 so far. Check out this beauty.

Majak Daw would look great in a Bulldogs jumper. Poster boy for some of those lanky Sudanese kids we seem in no shortage of in the west.

Isnt he on North's rookie list - and has only been on that list for 1 season?

He's still a rookie but he's about to finish his 2nd season. Sydney traded for Mumford when he was still rookie-listed by Geelong at the time so it could be done. North will want to keep him because he has gone from a million-to-one shot to knocking the door down for a senior game. But the sheer depth of ruck stocks at Arden St will continue to make it difficult for Majak to get a decent run, especially if McIntosh is not traded and has an injury-free pre-season. Nicnat-lite is not a bad description of him but his work at the stoppages has improved in leaps and bounds in 2011.

Food for thought in any event. I tend to agree with mjp's rationale that we should constantly keep replenishing our ruck stocks - we didn't for about 5 years in the mid 00's and were forced to rely on Peter Street for a couple of years once Darcy went down. We're feeling a little light-on again at the moment.

He'll play forward when Petrie retires in two years.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Minson has been harshly dealt with by the club this year and 2009 in my opinion. Most poor perspective on him by people is because he was played out of position as a key forward. Deserved to be playing ahead opf Huddo on a number of occasions for better matchups and Huddo needing rest.

Fair enough, IMO he's had plenty of opportunities to grab his spot in our side but sadly he's failed to shine.
