Who will win the 2011 NAB Rising Star Award?

I reckon if you haven't been nominated by now you're highly unlikely to with the NAB Rising Star Award. It's usually won by those nominated early in the season.

I have picked out a few who will more than likely feature prominently.

I've seen a bit of the Eagles this year, and whilst Darling is impressive, Luke Shuey looks like a seasoned professional. He has clean hands and can kick a goal too ... very much a well-rounded footballer.

You would hope so seeing as though he has been in the system for 3 years.

    Joke award.

I voted Shuey as I think he's had the most impact this season, but would love to have gone with Sam Reid, he looks a beauty!

I voted Heppell; Shuey should win it, but Heppell will.

They'll give it to the Suns just because they give evrything else to them
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Agree. I'm hoping Darling gets it (if not a Bulldog)

What has three years got to do with it?

What Mantis is referring to is that he has had 3 full pre seasons to get his body stronger, fitter etc. Where as Heppel or Darling have come straight in and played well.

    Criteria should be looked at.

Agree with that. Heppell has had a lot more media exposure east of Perth and will win.

As far as the award goes, I don't really have a problem with it. It either remains as is, or they have one award for first year players, and another for say 21 and under, with less than 20 games experience(? as a quick example) - but that might be too many awards.

I am not too anti 3rd year players being nominated but I also think the amount of years you have been in the system as well as the position/role you play should come into consideration along with you out and out performance for the year.

Heppell > Smith > Shuey due to my unique weighting system!

I didn't have beef with this award till I found out that the nominations were all made by one person (which is strange but you could let go) and that they admitted that he "probably would see 3 or 4 but doesn't watch all the games every week".

Either do it right or don't do it at all.
