Jason Tutt gloves shot at the Western Bulldogs

    Jon Anderson - HS - 26 August

JASON Tutt's journey to the AFL is as bizarre as any you could find.

The 20-year-old from Ainslie in the ACT wasn't playing in the under-18s three years ago when the likes of Nic Naitanui, Michael Hurley and Chris Yarran were jockeying for top 10 positions in the 2008 national draft.

In fact, he wasn't playing football at all, instead captaining Australia's team to victory in the under-19 World Softball Championships in Yukon, Canada.

Yes, softball, an event played at Olympic level by women and one never previously associated with producing a promising AFL player.

On debut for the Western Bulldogs against Port Adelaide last Sunday, the line-breaking Tutt picked up 26 possessions and kicked four goals, and then promptly signed with the club in a show of faith from both parties.

You hate when people say a player will not make it after one game yet you're ok with saying a player will make it after one game?

Desi, you read too much into my posts. Whether he will eventually make it, time will tell, but I never said he will, but you are right on the first part of your comment.

I dont understand what "Jason Tutt gloves shot at the Western Bulldogs" means.

    Does 'gloves' means 'loves'?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

    Refers to his softball/baseball background.

Yep I get that. But gloves is a long bow if it's supposed to denote loves. At our cricket club gloves mean you've misfielded-as in 'maybe you should be wearing gloves'.

In this context "gloves shot" means hs muffed his chance to me.

Don't they were mitts, rather than gloves in baseball/softball?

I think 'gloves it' is simply referring to taking his chance. Won't be winning any awards for great headline.

I know no glove means no love sometimes, but that might be different.

In cricket to glove it means to catch it, I am guessing it means he has caught his shot at AFL.
