    Dog of a day

Peter Hanlon - The Age - 1 September

BEHIND the Whitten Oval smiles there was sadness, as reality took a deep bite. As much as they'd hoped and prayed he might stay, all knew that Callan Ward really had no choice but to go.

On the terrace, clusters of die-hards watched training and held where-to-from-here discussions. ''Take the draft picks and move on,'' said Ross, a lifelong fan and pragmatist. ''I don't feel any ill will, I don't think too many do. Clearly it's a money decision.''

Another son of the west, Bob, tried on a player-manager's hat, and declared a preference for 3 per cent of $900,000 over 3 per cent of half that. ''His manager's going to have pushed him to go, and the manager's doing the right thing by the kid,'' he said. ''The kid would have to be off his head to stay here.''

"Out in football cyberspace, the slingshots were being armed. A ''Should Ward Play This Weekend'' forum was last night running 2:1 against, calling for Mitch Wallis to get a game and fast-track his future instead.
Nasty things were posted by people who presumably would never take a new job doing the same thing for more than twice as much money as they're on now."

Surely this was referring to BigFooty and not this forum!

No, no poll, but there sure were lots of calls for Callan not to be picked to play this weekend. It wouldn't surprise me that it was WOOF they were talking about......

I think the only thing I took out of that article to go on with is Brad West. What an absolute champion he was. A household name if I've ever heard one.

It's not a fair call, since he hasn't decided yet.
If he does decide, and the MC elect not to play him, fair call, I say.
We need to win the game. Will he be focused?
    No.
Will it detract from paying tribute to Bazza and the beard?
    Yes

You're kidding aren't you? Do you need to see him run out in round 1 in a GWS jumper to convince you he's gone?

Yea! We get to see a GWS marquee player in action, Yipee!!
We should have a poll on what day it's announced .
    My Bet Tuesday.
We should run a market on what Spin (crap) Callan Trots out
Paying 1.10 this stage is "tremendous opportunity in a new Frontier"
