Been thinking about it for a while, and I've figured it out. They're actually trying to make people hate the game. Absurd, money-driven Decision.

Is it really a problem if they schedule the matches in school holidays?

Makes complete sense if they do the 4:40PM time slot in Perth with the game then being shown at 7:40 Melbourne time. (which they already do I think from time to time but its not on free to air?)

Sunday Night Football is much better than games on Monday night for watching on tv. They are not so good for actually attending.

The NFL cottoned on to that a few years ago, with the free to air dropping Monday Night Football to cover the Sunday night game and the NFL following by scheduling the "Game of the Week" on Sunday nights. MNF is now covered by ESPN in the States, and now usually features 2 lesser teams.

Major League Baseball also have one game scheduled on Sunday nights each week that is nationally televised on ESPN. Most MLB games are only shown in the local markets of the 2 competing teams.

There is going to be football...on tv...on Sunday night?

Well, that is Super awesome. How is one more time-slot a bad thing?

If you want to watch on TV, sure. But if you want to actually go to the games...

Lol. Try living on the other side of the country and having to fly to melbourne a couple of times each year just to watch your team.

Sunday night = zero conflict with other social stuff and for me - unlike Friday night (let alone every other night bar Saturday) my business is actually closed on Sunday nights...open during the day, but closed at night. Sure, my soon to be 7 yo would struggle with getting up for school the next day but by soon to be 12yo and soon to be 16 yo will be fine...it isn't every week the dogs are playing then.

    Works for me

Agree with the Monday night thing, imo Sunday night games are a much better option.

Re: Get Ready for Sunday night matches - 7.40pm

I can sympathise with the Melbournians as it would sux with work the next day. When I was in Victoria 4 decades ago it used to take nearly 30 minutes to a hour to get to games depending on were it was held so Sunday would have sucked big time even though I would still have gone.
Now interstate which 99% are watched on Fox doesn't worry me the slightest.
