What type of players do we need to target this trade period?
If Trengove comes in, I think we are covered for tall defenders and rucks. Unless Lever wants in, or a very good specialist ruck is on the cheap.
Back flanks seemed well stocked still.
A tall forward would be nice, if a decent one became available, as would medium forwards now if Stringer, Crameri, Honey, Hamilton & Tweedie are going/gone.
Midfielders who can hit targets are welcome too.
I think we desperately need a good specialist forward pocket. Betts & Cameron sparkled last night, the Rioli's generally but now as well bring a pressure through agility and leg speed we just don't have.
The big question is can we address multiple needs in one trade season. Richmond last year picked up Prestia, Caddy & Nankervis and have two first rounders this year with the loss of one bigger player in Deledio.

Yes will be very interesting come trade week. Trengove would be a good get. The ruck is an area we need to address. Will Tommy Campbell get more opportunity there and actually get some form or will Roughy be our number 1 ruck. Our midfield looks quite good Libba, Wallis, Bont, Dahl, Macrae, Hunter. Looking forward to seeing how Dunkley goes next year. Out injured for most of 2017 so didn't get going.
We need to have better luck with injuries which hurt particular our backline this year with players out during certain periods.
Really hoping Tom Boyd has strong 2018 and plays mainly up forward.
We really need to improve our skill level as well because at times it was below AFL standard this year.

Re: What type of players do we need to target this trade period?
The one thing I like about GWS is the pace of some of their mids, they can move the ball very quickly.
I would be looking for pace in the midfield as well as a small goal kicker who should be feeding off Tom Boyd in the forward pocket.
I also think we need another ruckman, with some mobility.

Agreed, I also think we needed exactly the same 12 months ago

Love your thinking....
With stringer and Crameri most likely gone, I'm VERY worried about how our fwd set up will look next year. 2 relative quick forward flankers need to be replaced with similiar ilk. This is why I think we should make a play for Motlop. His pace is needed and definately required, and we need more than him.
I'd also look at moving JJ up the ground to wing/HF. He's proved to be a good kick for goal both on the run and set shot. A fit wood to play the running role with Williams.
Is Stefan Martin still on our radar ?
I will never see #16 the same!!

I agree and think it's almost a must move.
Seems to have gone quiet on a potential Martin move from Brisbane. Perhaps Scahche is getting all the headlines

Re: What type of players do we need to target this trade period?
Totally agree with BaD, need skill and pace in midfield as first priority and mobile forwards who can kick straight and keep ball i50. Unless Roughy can turn on 2015 form or Campbell become more mobile and clunk more marks we definitely need another ready to go ruck. The no 3rd man up rule really stuffed us up, plus our Los of men of mayhem.

I'd like Motlop also . Yes he is frustratingly inconsistent , but he has assets we need in pace and kicking .

Saad is allegedly leaving the Suns.
Thoughts?

Averaging 16.5 disposals at 82.3% over his career. Getting better too. Seems to possess traits we lack.

Breaks the lines and is quick . Be a decent pick up

Re: What type of players do we need to target this trade period?
One thing I would like to see with our recruiting is bringing in guys with good burst speed or ability/desire to build a strong tank to add to our team's forward pressure. I think it's the easiest way to find valuable players. These types so worth so much more than the sum of their parts. I think they are easier to get, in a moneyball sense, as it's only a couple of raw attributes they need.
It's why I am not so concerned with losing Stringer. As remarkable as his best is, guys who are prone to offering little forward pressure can be massive liabilities. A player who I believe in massively underrated is Jack Riewoldt. So good at making a contest then second effort.

I have read that Saad wants to return to Victoria
http://www.goldcoastfc.com.au/player-profile/adam-saad
Never see Suns games - presume he plays as a small forward or a running back man? Defensive pressure? What would he cost in a trade?

Re: What type of players do we need to target this trade period?
Saad would be the ideal replacement at half back to allow JJ more fwd time Dry Rot.
I certainly love his run and carry from what I've seen...takes the game on and usually good with disposable.
Has he been prone to soft tissue injuries though?
Seems to have good attitude.
Not sure what it would cost....maybe between picks 20-25?
I will never see #16 the same!!

We should be all over him.
