Martin got 32 touches, 11 tackles and 2 goals against Brisbane's reserves team.

Will be interesting to see if they pick him this week. You’d think if they don’t there is more to it, most likely that he has told them he is gone.
Dew seems like a pretty old school no-nonsense type character, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he the type to drop you out of the team if he knows you are not hanging around.

Re: Proactive Poaching
Matthew Lloyd on Footy Classified last night said that we should pickup Scott Thompson after being forced into retirement by North.
I don't particularly like the bloke but he is still a very solid backman. Could he be a cheap stopgap while Lewis Young develops, perhaps allows Cordy a smaller opponent or to play forward? This is of course if we can't pickup a better option like Keath or Moore.

Re: Proactive Poaching
I don't mind Thompson as a back up or if we think that we may have a defined role for him for a couple of years while the Young talls develop. It'd be great if he could distill some of his mongrel into a few of our boys while he is at it.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I wouldn't mind us asking the question of either Tarrant or Ben McKay. We were interested in Ben McKay in his draft year.
North still have a number of KPD options (Tarrant, Daw, Nielson, McKay) so one may be available.

Both contracted until the end of 2021. Tarrant is a gun, can't see him being get-able (didn't realise he was 30). McKay could perhaps be persuaded to leave for more opportunity after only 4 career games.

Re: Proactive Poaching
No to Thompson. Leaving his obnoxiousness to the side for one moment he's pretty cooked and doesn't fit our trajectory at all. We'd just need to find another one of him the next year anyway, and should be looking at someone with at least 5-6 years in their legs.
Mof - unless n0rf are blowing it up (not impossible), Tarrant isn't worth the outlay it would take. McKay is a good suggestion; a very North player in that he doesn't do anything exciting ever, but seems to get his job done, and reminds me a bit of Dan Talia. Think he recently re-signed though and they'd want to hang onto him pretty desperately.

Players will move for more opportunity and North with the new coach may want to try and obtain draft picks.
He will be stuck behind a few for the foreseeable future and contracts aren't exactly the most iron clad guarantees in the AFL anymore. I do want us to target a KPD who can play from next year, Ben McKay will be 22 years old in round 1 next year and is realistically injury depth at north until 2022 if Tarrant retires and Nielson doesn't overtake him.

To save me going over it, here's a post of mine from a few months ago covering him, us and their list management:
Last year we did a medical on Ben King, presumably if Smith went earlier. Maybe he was 'plan a or b'. King also made comments hoping to get to the Dogs. Didn't happen with King going at pick 5. Obviously, he has a twin at St Kilda and family back here he'd maybe like to get to. He hasn't played yet.
Lots of 'if's'...
If we have something like pick 5-9 this year. If Ben is homesick. If we still rate him highly. If he still wants to play with us. If we have something else, a second round pick (draft points trade two 3rds into a ok 2nd, around 30's) (help them with a high academy pick) or a fringe player they might like, they've previously pursued Jong hard (Dale?). Offer him a 3 year deal (his second year with an effective 2 year extension). Offer them up our first rounder (a high pick) and the extra bit, and see what happens from there.
It's expensive in terms of what's needed to pry him out, but the flip side there's still plenty of cap left to go after a quality free agent this year or next. But it would probably lock away our tall stocks and spine for a long time with Ugle-Hagan next year a strong possibility unless the AFEL screw us.
I'm not betting on this happening, not with my money or even anyone else's money. It's as left field as I could come up with to get a talented young KPD not on the media landscape to contrast the options either recruit free agents vs out of contracted KPDs. But I wonder if it's worth seeing if any of those 'if's' are in play as he looks to be a player. An athletic 202cm KPD would be perfect with Young & Cordy that bit smaller.
If they retain Sam Day with Thompson re-signing, there's not a blind refusal factor and I'd expect them to listen to offers, probably from St Kilda if they think of it. But if Sam Day leaves, then there's about less than zero chance King leaves under any circumstances I'd guess. If Martin or Wright leaves that could make things interesting again. But they're actually signing some so far this year which is a good sign for them.
In all, just a thought bubble or discussion point.
