We could... but would that mean Bruce misses out? Naughton is a lock.
We don't know what English will be capable of after one more pre-season, although we do know he was semi-managed in the middle of this year by playing ~50% ruck time for a few rounds.
If we don't keep Trengove, we have nobody capable of taking ~80% ruck time if Timmy misses a game or needs a rest. To me that's a concern.
Back to Essendon - Laverde? Mid-sized forward who has shown promise but just never put it all together. If he 'clicks' he'd be a gun.

Could also describe Bailey Dale.
I'm just not a fan of the low intensity tweener types. You have to be constantly presenting, balls to the wall to make it really work, like Mihocek at the Pies. Laverde doesn't have the inclination, IMO.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Re: Essendon
So would we need to trade for Saad or could he be acquired on the cheap?
I'm not sure he is a player we need but he does get a get of the ball

Dodo will make it impossible for us to trade for him.
He would want Lachie Hunter or Josh Dunkley as a minimum.

I don't mind Redman in the limited games I've seen of the Bummers.

Hopefully Schasche can come up after missing the scratch match and rescue his career with a sterling 4 match finals series that makes him into the confident AFL player we all want him to become. Assuming Naughton misses of course.
I feel like either TD is throwing out bait or hasn't been logging on/ posting much over the last couple of months!

They're literally the two players he would want and expect.

A lot can happen in two hours*.
*Before you reply I haven't checked the time stamps.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

3rd in their B&F in the past two years. He won't be cheap.
A single first rounder might not cut it, although he is out of contract.
Looks like there will be a mass exodus at Essendon to go with North's savage list cuts. We may see more player movement this year than we have for a long time.

Watson saying Merret won't be leaving despite all the rumours.

Well they have to keep someone, and if they lose Saad and a few others there will be lots of cash available. They may just open the chequebook to keep someone by heavily overpaying just to give their supporters some hope.
There's still the Fantasia issue to play out as well.

Of course Tim wouldn't be biased either.
Is he certain or just hoping?

Re: Essendon
Saad is surplus to our needs and sucks. At some stage the media and punters collectively decided that his work off the ball (that if you were really watching the game like me, an intellectual, would see and rate elite according to Champion Data or whatever) meant that his fumble-proneness, high and horrible but wow its fast disposal, and wilingness to take 3 bounces every 10 steps didn't count.
Please stop bringing him up, it's just making me mad. Does (should) he even get a game with us? We had to throw Crozier forward last week to fit all our small defenders in the side.

Is he just a spokesperson for the club now? He has this schtick going, Mr Sensible and calm but I can see right through him. You ain't foolin' no one Timbo! If he's addressed it there's something in it.

Fixed, and in furious agreement.
A 3rd rate Johannisen who plays with even less accountability is surely at the bottom of our wants list. That said, JJ's been appreciably better in that area as this season's progressed.
Much rather see Saad sending Melbourne or GWS fans to an early grave.
