Re: A grandstand finish at VU Whitten Oval

I remember the stand being built, I was just starting high school.

In all the years I went to home games, I never sat in the stand. I always met my mates in front of the stand between the players race and the umpires race.

It felt like we never lost a home game at WO, although the 1980/81 season was a real disaster. Fun times.

You must have stood not far from my dad, his friends and me as a kid. Next to the bulldog players race, on the umpires race side of it

yes I did, about half way down from top walk way. There were about 10 of us who met there every home game throughout the 80s

That's funny, I remember us the same way, as being really competitive at the Western Oval no matter our position on the ladder, yet looking at the actuality we not only lost there a lot, we got thrashed. Our worst ever loss was there in 82. No wonder I hate the Bombres...they killed us by more than 130 points both times in the same season.

Late 70s and early 80s were very tough years. 1985 was the highlight for us in the 80s.
