Re: Essendon
So how long until the seemingly all powerful pro Hird faction comes for Merrett? Maybe we can finally win that Crameri deal.

As much as I like Roarke I could live with a straight swap for Merrett.

He's effectively talking on behalf of the players so it would be a bold move to turn on him.

Merrett does have an interesting history at the Bombers.
Dumped from the leadership group after a short period of time, and I think after a really good year on field.
This year he returned.
All a bit weird.

Re: Essendon
Yeah I also took it as, to quote Johnny Knoxville, the last act of a desperate man. The players aren’t a bunch of red pilled morons who grew up idolising Hird, and they probably don’t want another significant period of their careers burnt on an unchecked nostalgia tour.

Re: Essendon
I think it's a smart move by Merrett, presuming that he is verbalising the thoughts of at least some of his teammates. Essendon would ignore their voice here at their peril... which is to say I hope they do hire Hird and i will happily get some popcorn and settle in to watch the already flaming dumpster kick up a notch in its intensity..

Well, that's one way to get the Women in Insolvency and Restructuring Victoria Footy Finals Luncheon some wider awareness.

Re: Essendon
Tom Browne has confirmed a different interpretation
Revealed
Zach Merrett has reached out to James Hird, supporting Hird’s determination to return as coach.
In a text, I’m told Merrett said his luncheon comments were quoted out of context , and he would be excited if the Bombers legend wins the role.
If true it's a huge endorsement for Hird.

I worked with a bloke who was arrested for sticking a tee in the tram tracks and hitting a golf ball down Mt Alexander road at 3am in the morning.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

I went to a call one day where some knuckleheads/kids poured petrol down the tram tracks on a sloping hill in the middle of the night. When we turned up it was like the Delorean had just hit 88mph and all that was left was the flaming tracks.
I'm not gonna lie I was kind of impressed.
