Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs Alex Keath

I’d be surprised if Keath doesn’t retire. If we happened to get Jones and another defender, then I feel he’s going to be tapped on the shoulder, or threatened with majority VFL next year. The Keath of 2022 is completely different to the player last year, and once injuries started, which they have over the last 12 months in particular, then it’s hard to come back from there. The pace of the game is unfortunately passing him by.
I will never see #16 the same!!

He has reportedly met a contract trigger for 2023 so he would have to be either physically or mentally (or both) cooked to walk away from what is likely a fairly lucrative contract.

Unfortunately there's no way to know when he's out of contract. If only we had some... I don't know...list.

There is always a chance he has had a look at Crozier struggling to get senior games and thinks he doesn't want to go through that next year but I agree it would be hard to walk away from a job that pays well for you to get fit.

Do you think we could retire him but move his m into a coaching role. His nickname is teacher

I am sure if he thinks his body is right he would want to play on.

Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs Alex Keath

There’s a little part of me that wonders what would happen if we got another stopper and tried Keath as an interceptor. Another little part of me wonders what an extended period off will do to rehab his body (he has been genuinely best on ground for us in a game this year so he can’t be all the way gone).

But he’s probably all the way gone, so we should plan accordingly.

Re: Welcome to the Westernbulldogs Alex Keath

It's like this board's gone mad.

We don't want ruck cover we will actually play as ruck cover, we're worried about getting defencive cover we will actually play even though we need defencive cover.

I really don't get the angst. If Keath can still play next year then great, we have selection pressure. If he can't then no biggie, we have cover.

Do people expect there to be this perfect transition between players who are playing today but won't be playing next year because form isn't fleeting and injuries don't happen?
Nobody's looking for a puppeteer in today's wintry economic climate.

Thought the big man was solid on the weekend.

Have to say I felt more comfortable with Alex down there, I think amazingly he has some good footy left in him. Never write off a champ!

He and Duryea show incredible leadership traits. I was wrong about both of them being cooked.

    Is this a devolution?

Yeah, I too thought they were cooked, so you are not alone there.

Would we have won an extra game or two with Keath in the side in stead of Buku or JOD?

It’s arguable we would’ve beaten Hawthorn with Keath in for Buku. No way in hell he gets rag dolled by Sicily with one working arm.
