Unbelievable, the umpire gives a free to Carlton, in front of goals, because Freo player said something to ump. With a goal in it and the ball in the centre to be bounced- is this a ****ing joke

Only Carlton could win a game like that. I'm shocked the ump didn't call Curnow over to take the free. They like him lot!

Haven't paid dissent all year and some idiot wants to get noticed so ruins a good ending.

There were a couple of poor missed marks by Freo up field when they were 8 points up with less than 4 minutes left. They could have iced a minute off the clock and it was game over.

Was Jordan Boyd ever on our radar when he was at Footscray? He's exactly the kind of small defender we need - courageous and very good one-on-one

Agree, freo really stuffed up, but paying a dissent free with 4 points in it - disgusting

We don't know what was said and the time and state of the game should not be a factor in whether it is paid.

Apparently, prior to that one ump called touched yet the mark was paid in front of goal for Carlton to hit the front, of course Freo players were livid.

    I call this cheating

    Reported in The Age Bloq

The Dockers players believed a George Hewett kick that landed in the arms of Matt Cottrell inside 50 had been touched by James Aish.

In fact, they believed, one of the umpires had called ‘touched play on’ while the ball was in the air. However, Cottrell was paid the mark and went back to kick the goal and put the Blues in front.

As tempers flared a Dockers’ player - which appeared to be Jordan Clark - made a comment to the umpire which led to a second free kick being paid to Carlton’s Matt Kennedy inside the Blues’ forward 50, denying the Dockers any chance for a late scrambled victory.

    Re: AFL Game Day R4 - 2024

Surely a dissent free kick is just paid where the ball is? Never minding the fact that it sounds like it shouldn't have been a free kick (although Pearce also should have tried harder to refocus his teammates), but the fact it was paid in that location is really poor in my eyes.

I understand that's the rule, but it's not like he hit someone in that spot....no need for the free kick to be there imo.
