I’m guessing, but I reckon the concept of umpiring is to stop one team in any given moment getting an unfair advantage. I also genuinely think the rules exist to achieve this.

I don't think so. These idiots are just on power trips, trying to show they're boss and will punish and try and embarrass players, you just have to listen to the way they talk down to them. Turn their mics off and just pay them to officiate, not try to make them part of the show.
