BARRETT: Sheedy, Tony Soprano, a sacking. You can't make this up - https://www.afl.com.au/news/828855

Barrett is normally a gutter scribe but he doesn't miss here. Sheedy is a cancer at that club.

Yes that was the first Barrett article I have clicked on in a long time. Enjoyed it. (It's still gutter but I like the target)

Being a North supporter I reckon that Barrett would have enjoyed writing that
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Hopefully Sheedy can maintain his influence in such profound ways for many years to come.

    Re: Essendon

I saw something on Twitter which indicated all of the top 8 clubs this year have first time/one club coaches at the helm in fact that are very few recycled coaches.

Essendon should look at getting a new innovative coach and support him with experienced assistants.

No, Essendon should bring back Hird and keep Dodoro

Only if they add Sheedy to the match committee.

    Re: Essendon

    Xavier Campbell "resigns"

Sheedy is recreating the night of the long knives.

    Mahoney will be next.

    Dodo safe as houses.

Hird comeback has to have shortened.

It's unbelievable what is happening, they're dominating the news for all the wrong reasons.
I think Campbell is going knowing that as the person who had the Worsfold to Rutten succession plan Sheedy was never going to accept him.

On field is one thing, the coach and footy department.

But for that to leach into the executive just when they were getting back on their feet and had some stability is quite absurd!

They need to get rid of Sheedy, not sure he’s sober much anymore.

    Re: Essendon

This is reminiscent of the Weimar Republic in Germany post WW1.

Destined to fail, never embraced by the "real Germans" who fought in a war they "didn't lose" . It had a period of real stability in the mid 20s when things were looking up and wise moderates were in control, and bang the Wall St crash came in 29 to seal it's fate.

The old guard agitating behind the scenes and pushing the "stab in the back" theory (Germany was betrayed in WW1 from within) got their man.

    We know the rest.

It's probably relatable to many situations involving humanity and power, I just happen to know this one really well.

    I love this from outstanding Age sports journalist Greg Baum;

"This probably won’t lighten the mood, but in 10 days time, Essendon’s finals win drought will be eligible to drive".
