Currently I have lettuce, Broccoli Beetroot, Parsnips, Fennel and Garlic.

Let me know what your thoughts are of Diggers I think the fruit & vegies are out of this world as they are all the old heirloom varieties.

Try the Tigeralla Tomatoes and the Australian butternut pumpkin you will not believe the flavor.
    Cheers,

Having a look now, being big on companion planting is something I picked up both from watching Vasili's Garden (Maresi!) and my Greek grandmother.
Growing a cauliflower near the tomatoes with some basil was one thing they mentioned, the bugs eat the cauli & leave everything else alone.

Not sure if the basil made much flavour difference like suggested but I did have a very good tomato summer.

Just dug up and planted mine last weekend. Bit of trial and error. Beetroot, cabbage, lebo cuccumber, some other cuccumber, carrots, cauliflower. All the stuff i hate.

Nice work MRM. I've had a crazy year for tomatoes, they were well over the fence before they were even flowering. Probably had 200-300 cherry/grape & mini-roma tomatoes rot on the vines, despite picking 3-4 punnets almost every day for the past couple of weeks.

Zucchini also going well, basil died after getting smothered, and the spring onion isn't doing well, garlic died after being smothered as well. Lettuce is gone now as well, nice whilst it lasted.

Still a few weeks left of the summer crop before the winter planting again.

          You can say that again.
I had a bumper crop growing, a bit late this year due to late planting and the weather prior christmas. The were almost ready prior the 3 day prior (43,43,45). Many got stunted, burnt and cooked. I still have a few including some big ones and they taste manificent but the whole vege patch has been effected.
I'd had cherry tomatos since early Dec but they aren't the same as the bigger types.

              Zucchinis have been going mad
Snow Peas nowhere near last year's effort - were eaten by bugs, then I grew sone from seed straight in the ground, probably started a bit late and they're dying already after only a couple of yields
Tomatoes (all mini) went nuts again, not like last year where 200-300 had to rot on the zine because I couldn't pick & eat that many. Might swap 2 of the 3 for full size tomatoes next year
Lettuces have been eaten, re-planted a few that were snailed but one is protected and is growing ok.
Chilli plant put in actually has a few little ones growing, looking forward to picking those in a couple of weeks
Basil went nuts - best crop I've had
Leeks are struggling, don't hold much hope for them

As an aside, I also planted a lime tree (gift) which seems to taken hold, despite not being in an ideal location. Next year I'll grow cucumber too to make perfect G&Ts

                  Re: Veggie Patch

Had festivals so had a planting last week (a bit late but thought I'd put one in anyway).

3 different types of tomato, Lebanese zucchini (all the local nursery had), lettuce mix, a chilli plant (last one was eaten during winter), and because the selection was so poor I planted seeds for squash and two types of snowpea.

I'm not sure how the seeds will go planted so late - I'll defer to Chops' expereince on that one

I've got two chooks and they eat pretty much anything I plant. Apart from the rhubarb, they just aint interested in the rhubarb.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

If is large numbers not much you can do organically. Pesticides might do the trick but I doubt it will get that bad.

Well I became the best friend of Mr Snail as a reasonable portion of mny veggie patch went to feeding them.
This time to Poyntons in Essendon (magnificant set-up) and restocked, this time with added Marigolds (good for bugs aparently) and snail bait.
Night 1, next morning I had 30-40 dead snails surrrounding my veggie patch. Hopefully I've taken out the bulk of their population now.

Squash didn't grow from seed but the snowpeas were everywhere (lifted some of the mulch to let them get some sun).
