    RIP Gough Whitlam.

It's not music, entertainment nor technology but this is the only board that is suitable for a thread like this. Former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam died last night.

Gough was one of the most truly remarkable Australians who ever lived. RIP Gough.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

The phrase 'great man' is thrown around pretty indiscriminately these days, but Gough was truly a great Australian who changed this country for the better in such a short time. If only there was someone with his intellect, vision and charisma around in politics today, I wouldn't despair so much for our future.

        RIP.

RIP Gough. Such an inspirational and dedicated man. "You may well say God save the Queen because nothing will save the Governor-General!" Loved it.

Agree with all of the above, whilst I wasn't alive for his tenure as PM, having studied the reforms the Whitlam government introduced and there relevance today, he must have been a true visionary.

As a club for the working class, I would imagine a vast majority of Doggies supporters are labor voters, and Gough's titanic status in the party is probably only rivalled by that of Bob Hawke.

                RIP.

I wasn't alive either when he was PM but he was from what people have said and I've read a man who stood by his principles of the Labor Party which got many people his respect. He was a man who did a lot for social reform and to modernise Australia. RIP Gough Whitlam.

Isn't this just the thing? There's no inspiration from our current leaders (on both sides). I'm not moved by any of them and it's disheartening.

Agree. We just don't have any good leaders in Canberra.

The answer is not to vote for those two parties but to try a bit harder than to vote for Palmer United Party.
