Re: Break away European Super League.
No. I've watched a lot of football. Premier League, Championship, European football. Overwhelmingly most of if is forgettable. Sure Spurs beating Arsenal 5-1 in a League Cup semi was great; Bale marching into the Champ's League v Inter then AC; a 4-4 draw with Chelsea stand out. In between have been someof the worst and most boring 2 hours of my life that the highlight has been the d*ckheads on the tube ride home or the pints in the pub after. The fact is football is an inherently boring game and when played between a good club and a sh*t club its at is worst because 9 times out of 10 the sh*t club parks 10 behind the ball and stifles any creativity......think Terry Wallaces flood but with an offside rule.
I've lived in London for 20 odd years and for the majority of those 20 years 6 teams have occupied the top 4 spots. Yes there have been the occasional interludes by Leicester and Everton, but that's about it. Maybe this year West Ham may make the CL (great if they do), but they wont go deep. Why? Simply because they have no money to attract the players who will propel them to European success.
Its a complete illlusion that football is fair. Its not. Rich clubs will dominate. You ask a 8 year old kid who they support and the answer will be (unless their dad/mum has influenced them) one of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Man U, Man City. Maybe in one team towns its different (ie Newcastle/Sheffield/Leeds), but in the bigger cities its pretty clear cut. They dominate ticket sales, TV money, merchandise sales etc. In fact I'd argue that Barcelona and Real Madrid sell more shirts in the UK than any club outside of the top 6. Why should rich clubs be forced to compete to play in an elite competition when they are pretty much elite anyway and have been elite over a long period of time. Harking back to this being unfair is total garbage and misses the point entirely that the current system is not fair.
People don't realise that the big European clubs stopped being local football teams a LONG LONG time ago. They are international brands who have outgrown their local domestic markets. Each one of them would probably beat most of the top 10 (if no all) International teams. They are what modern football is about.Comment

Re: Break away European Super League.
Leeds wear warm up shirts against Liverpool today with “Earn It” and a Champions League logo on the front and “Football is for the fans” on the back. Leave some in Liverpool’s dressing room too.
Quote from Bielsa "The fundamental problem is the rich always aspire to be more rich without considering the consequences for the rest. As they gain more power they start demanding more privilege over the rest."
Having long had a strong interest in politics and having been a pretty hopeless junky for periods of my life I've had a unique opportunity to assess the attitude of money the super rich have to money and they don't a healthy view.
Put it this way. If you have a heroin addict a kilo block of heroin (and that is far more than they could use in their lifetime) and then ask them for a taste the next week they'd tell you to *!*!*!*! off. It's their heroin and you're not getting any of it. They can never have enough to feel comfortable.
The super rich have the same attitude to money. They can never have enough. In a way I feel bad for them in much the same way I feel bad for the average junky. There's a hole in them that can never have enough money/stuff and it's not a healthy way to go through life. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: Break away European Super League.
Thinking the Super League is going to deliver exciting football all the time is short sighted. A lot of very ordinary but highly technical games of football (think what happens when one team needs an away goal and one team needs to defend in international ties) will be played as clubs try and maintain reputations. You'll end up with horrible time wasting, defencive structures and ridiculous amounts of "simulation" much like you do at the World Cup.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Re: Break away European Super League.
I’m still trying to get my head around it but this article covers some really valid points

A bit like the AFL and the larger clubs that think the game is special because they exist to get the prime time slots and favourable draws.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Re: Break away European Super League.
FC United of Manchester is an option.
Football Club United of Manchester is a semi-professional football club in Moston, Manchester, England, that competes in Northern Premier League Premier Division, the seventh tier of the English football league system, and plays home matches at Broadhurst Park.
Founded in 2005 by Manchester United supporters opposed to American businessman Malcolm Glazer's takeover, F.C. United entered Division Two of the North West Counties Football League, earned three consecutive promotions and were promoted for a fourth time to National League North for the 2015–16 season. In cup competitions, F.C. United reached the second round of the FA Cup in 2010–11 and the fourth round of the FA Trophy in 2014–15. In 2019 they were relegated back to the Northern Premier League.
After ground-sharing between 2005 and 2014 with Bury at Gigg Lane, F.C. United opened their own ground, Broadhurst Park in north-east Manchester, in May 2015. The team was managed by Karl Marginson from its formation in 2005 until October 2017.[2] The current manager is Neil Reynolds, who took over as manager in October 2018 from David Chadwick who acted as temporary manager following Tom Greaves's resignation in August 2018.[3][4] The club's regular kit colours are red shirts, white shorts and black socks. Their badge is based on the Manchester coat of arms and features a ship at sea and three stripes for the three rivers that flow through Manchester.
F.C. United is the largest fan-owned football club in the United Kingdom by number of members[5] and has one of the highest home attendances in English non-league football. The club is democratically run by its members who have equal voting rights and own one share in the club each."Footscray people are incredible people; so humble. I'm just so happy - ecstatic"Comment

Re: Break away European Super League.
Very happy Sir Alex Ferguson has come out against this. We would have not been considered apart of the big 6 in the 70s and 80s. Arsenal, Man City and Spurs have not won the champions league. Nottingham Forrest and Aston Villa have.
Thinking about it overnight I would not watch the Super league if Man Utd are involved. I’m 100% behind the Supporter groups of Manchester United who have come out against this bad idea."Footscray people are incredible people; so humble. I'm just so happy - ecstatic"Comment

Re: Break away European Super League.
The best thing that all supporters of the proposed breakaway clubs can do is to not buy the merchandise etc. The players I reckon could become heroes and refuse to play but probably won’t happen."Footscray people are incredible people; so humble. I'm just so happy - ecstatic"Comment

Will it work? I have my doubts, but is it any worse than having Barca/Real/Athletic win the Spanish League each year? Inter/AC/Juve win Seria A? One of the 6 win the Prmier Leage? Rangers or Celtic win the Scottish league? Now that is boring! Its why AFL is so great - the teams are all so close that every year there are 3 or 4 teams that push their way up the ladder. Every year there are 3 or 4 teams that slip down the ladder. Key though is that the teams falling down know they can rebuild without the fear of dropping out of the competition all togetherComment
