So it seems the ICC will not recognise Afghanistan under the Taliban. Plus as of a few hours ago, Rasheed Khan resigned as captain of the Afghanistan T20 side. I don’t think he’s heading back to Afghanistan to chat the with the new Taliban head of cricket. Khan, a gun, will need to unfortunately find a new national team or turn full time T20 circuit player.
I have no doubt at all that many Governments on the advice of Cricket Boards will offer citizenship as a part of their humanitarian visa program. Khan seems to really enjoy Australia so I wonder if CA is making calls. I’d love Khan here for longer than the BBL. Government and CA did something vaguely similar before with Fawad Ahmed not all that long ago, who happened to get quick citizenship in time for the selection cut off.
Would be a great win/win if we can help Afghans who can’t return home and offer them a career that helps them and their families. Khan would be great in all forms. Although maybe the cash on the T20 circuit is better? Seems wrong to mix sport and future genocide, but they have some good players and the main test nations are no doubt interested to assist them. Do you think CA would try to help people/secure players?
