I have no opinion on him, don't follow it closely enough. Just that I don't think you can claim the former coach had better results when Gustavsson had the best results in Matildas history.

I spoke too soon.
Gustavsson inherited a team on the rise with probably the best Matilda ever a lot younger. It’s basically the same squad since Stacjic left. Maybe Fowler is the only real class that’s been included
I thought they underachieved at the home WC and only got as far as they did because of some good penalty keeping. Totally outclassed in the semi and 3rd place game.
As for these Olympics, how do you concede 5 goals to Zambia?
Not sure how you can say best results under TG?
Under Stajcic the first defeats of the USA(not sure this happened under Gustavsson), tournament of champions win, 2 Asian cup finals and high ranking of 4.

You obviously know much more about it than I do but 4th in an Olympics and 4th in a World Cup are facts not opinion.
It’s time for a new coach at the Matildas. Results were better under the old coach
Didn't the players get the old coach sacked as well, despite his excellent record? And the latest coach got them to 4th in a World Cup.
The way the players have wiped the coach 5 minutes after their tournament has ended reminds me of the old quote, "failure is an orphan and success has many fathers".

4th in a home WC is a bit of a underachievement for a top ranked side. As mentioned very fortunate with a penalties win in the quarters.
That 4th place at 2020 Olympics masks what actually happened. Beaten by Sweden twice, 1 win in normal time was against NZ. The other only win against Great Britain was because of some late individual play by Kerr

Something happen? Culture issue. Never really revealed. He has had a few jobs since

If 2 coaches have been sacked due to player disenchantment and both of them have achieved above-average results in tournament football during their tenure (I respect your position that Gustavsson should have achieved what he did or more due to talent available - you're a more avid watcher of the Matildas than I am), perhaps there is a culture issue within the playing group that hasn't been properly addressed?
Assuming your position is correct and there is sufficient elite talent in the squad to be a powerhouse contender in tournament football, why did they have bronze statues erected in their honour after finishing 4th in the World Cup?
These swimming events seriously seem to be taking the mickey. I know it's ludicrous to award medals for break-dancing and - based solely on watching the event, Skate boarding - but surely we already have medals for swimming backwards and forwards in 3x different styles over every distance imaginable...now we need a relay over every distance as well?
I am 100% getting old but this stuff really does (to me anyway) lessen the achievements of the other events.

It's a bit like the Phelps v Bolt comparison. Phelps was obviously a freak and won a million medals because there are so many variations of the same distance swimming events. If they had backwards and sideways running maybe Bolt would have just as many medals.

Agree. But not all Gold medals are equal.
100m running Gold Medal is probably the equivalent of 1,000,0000 4x200m Swimmiing relary Gold Medals!

Do you want me to start in on my "Didn't Jess Fox already float down the river in a boat" storyline? 'Cos I'm ready. Apparently the C1 and the K1 are radically different even if it is one person in one boat going down a river through red and green gates.
I actually think she's amazing and that event seems really hard. But using a paddle with one blade versus two? Should we do the Olympic Javelin now with a wooden spear and a more modern graphite one?

Anyway. What time is the footy on??
Why would you canoe down those scary rapids when there’s a clear walking path right next to the river?
