What is your favourite cricket shot?

When watching cricket, what shot do you just love seeing played?

Who in your opinion plays that shot as well as anyone?

My favourite would be David Gower playing the cover drive.

    Others:

    Cut - Gordon Greenidge
Back foot drive - Steve Waugh
    Straight drive - Greg Chappell
    Pull - Ricky Ponting
    Hook - Viv Richards

I like watching a well executed late cut or the straight drive.

Pull shot over mid-wicket off the back foot to an express paceman.

        Vivian Richards is my god.

Yep Gower's effortless cover drives come a close second.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Loved Mark Waugh's Pull shot, where his right leg stayed grounded and he rotated his body towards square leg with his left leg in the air.

            Cover Drive - Brian Lara.
Loved watching Matty Hayden sweep against India also.

Without doubt it was Mark Waugh flick off the pads that went through mid wicket and mid on. I have never seen a more effortless stroke, it was just a flick of the wrists and it would go flying off the bat for a boundary. He wasn't my most favourite player but when Mark was in form it was like poetry in motion.

This, followed closely by the cut shot, then pull shot.

A beautifully struck cover drive is poetry in motion.

Its a shame I've never seen Denis Compton's famous sweep shot, from what I've read it was undefendable.

Richie Richardson hit the pull as well as anyone I've ever seen, and did it without a lid.

I'm probably going against the grain a bit here, but I love a good leave, and Tubby Taylor did it better than anyone.

Shot I used to hate most at Test level was the late cut on the subcontinent. I don't know why, just aethetically annoying -- usually cramped, weird timing, and if you were watching a crap offie, just happened over and over ad nauseum.

Goes without saying that I hate all the new-fangled innovative slog crap. It's just not cricket.

Ponting at his peak - pull shot.
What made it better is it usually came after a boundry the previous ball, so the bowler would give the aggressive short one to intimidate, which was then dispatched with the "pull shot". It didn't even matter if they placed a fielder out there either with the pace it had on it.
