More intrigue as Hawthorn prepares to join Western Bulldogs in hunt for Port Adelaide’s Chad Wingard
    OCTOBER 09, 2018

CHAD Wingard can now count on an auction for his talents with Hawthorn clear to join the Western Bulldogs in courting the contracted Port Adelaide star.

The Hawks’ search to answer coach Alastair Clarkson’s call for class has failed to deliver Greater Western Sydney midfielder Dylan Shiel who is seeking a trade to Essendon.

And while Hawthorn — that already has an interest in trading for Power midfielder-forward Karl Amon — consider how far it can stretch its salary cap and strict wage system for Wingard, Port Adelaide is standing aside from the never-ending debate on Wingard’s future
    .

    ---

The article doesn't say anything else that hasn't already been said. In fact, it doesn't really even say the Hawks are circling back hard, merely that they're "clear" to.

In any event, piss off Hawks, we got here first.

Was having a look at the Chads stats and the tackle count is the one that surprised me. He had 70 tackles this year which would have him 1 behind Wallis in 6th in our tackle count this year.

                    Tom Browne:

Chad Wingard could nominate his club of choice as soon as tonight. (Edit: Reckons Hawthorn though having listened to his video)

                    .........

                    1. He wouldn't nominate his current club. He's contracted. So it's another club.
                    2. Hawthorn would've had a handful of hours today to usurp us. That's a record speed usurp if true.
                    3. Not one other single journo is saying it. But journo's don't say stuff when there's nothing really to say right?
                    4. Now his Twitter is toned down to Hawthorn to chase him too, likely. FFS.

It will be interesting if he goes to the Hawks. What did they say to him can you please wait we need to work out if Sheil nominates us because we prefer him? The way the media is going maybe they were not into Sheil at all.

Yep. It's like they all have the editor/producer, saying 'Essendon win trade week' and 'if Hawks miss the first one, they'll get the second one. Because players love knowing they're plan b, and Hawthorn have great picks and players they'll trade and more money to spend'. There's a whole lot going against Hawthorn, as well as winning flags years ago in their favour. But the talking points seem to be circulated through the media, except Kane Cornes who shot from the hip.

Edit: just saw some balanced reporting from AFEL.com.au

Now they've missed out on Shiel, look for the Hawks to intensify their bid for Wingard, who is contracted at Port for 2019.

The Hawks will face stiff competition from the Western Bulldogs, who are equally keen on the dual All Australian.

The Bulldogs also have a stronger hand in this year's NAB AFL Draft – their first pick is at No.7 while the Hawks' does not fall until No.15 – with which to satisfy the Power, who want to get their hands on the elite South Australian talent on offer.

I’ve got a sick feeling about this wingard scenario, and with every report I’m reading that nausea feeling is only going stronger. If wingard goes to hawks over us, then I’m afraid that this trade period will be a massive failure for our club, if the light at the end of the tunnel is nothing more than players likeLloyd, rose or Duraya.
I will never see #16 the same!!

I missed that. If Trengove has been talking to him, Bevo met him and Sam Power talking to his manager - all on the quiet before Friday afternoon. Why would we go public if the answer wasn't a hard yes? Only stupidity. And I rate Power with Bains above and Gordon above not to be making stupid PR moves on something that wasn't solid. That still leaves me feeling confident. The way it sounds like Hinkley left Wingard on, the perfect opposite type of coach to convince him would be Bevo.

Enough is enough and it's up to Wingrad to step forward and nominate a club now or confirm that he will be at Port next season.
He's a big boy but needs to stand up and be counted. He's either in or out.

If he wants to stay or leave he needs to do the right thing now and let both clubs know his intentions.
