The fans will love you and you will become a cult hero.
I think the fact that we shat our pants onfield 2 years in a row post a premiership, have had to move on player's with shoddy motivation, commitment..plus our huge injury list.. thats probably a big part.

      There's 'no trade request'.
Based on The Hun 'understanding' from an unknown source or club (his manager jacking the price or Port putting on pressure to get our pick 7).
And Hawthorn only have 15 & 35, but dogs have 7.
Dogs had supreme confidence in landing him.

I freely admit the appearance looks like he's not coming to us. But there's actually not a lot of evidence in that one article to feel 100% in any direction to be honest.
"In the Kubler-Ross Grief Cycle, the second stage is one of denial."

At least you've moved on from shock.

I agree the article's light on hard facts but standing back a bit and eyeing the proposition as an outsider, if you remove the Trengove factor why else would Wingard choose to come to us?

Do players look at that, or do they look at the potential of the list, the facilities offered etc?

I hope we get Rozee and we flog the Hawks every time we play them next year.

            Re: The Chad Thread

Is it possible that following a number of meetings, dinner at coaches house etc that we simply felt he was of interest but only at the right price? At this point in time we would have some fair ideas about who we might be able to grab in the draft and given the amount of deadwood we have been trying to clear out, perhaps Bevo and co said 'yes the kid is a good player, yes he compliments our young list, but there are still some question marks on him that these draftees don't have. We can talk, but we arent using this year's pick'.

Or am I just trying to soften the blow?

Since the flag we've absolutely dropped the ball. Edit : Trengove and Crozier have been very good. I'm Jackson's player sponsor so I have a soft spot for him but they arent exactly a graders. Chad is an A grader and exactly what we need . Hawks seriously ! I'm so annoyed.

I think our on field trajectory compared to Hawks must be a part of it.
Hawks had a poor 2017, but rebounded back into top 4.
We won a flag and have declined in 2017 and even further and more dramatically in 2018.
I'm not sure we would look a solid lock to repeat 2016 to a 25 year old wanting both a payday and success. Hawks have runs on the board over a long period of time. Whether or not they win again, they would look more likely than us to a prospect like Wingard.

It's possible, because it is evident Port don't want him. So what is wrong???

Unlikely if port retain pick 6. It’ll be Ben King

                      Re: The Chad Thread

Win the flag next year and this will be moot. Chad is a good player. Not as good as some make him out to be. He runs hot and cold and to be honest we would do just as well going into the draft and getting a kid who is keen and wants to play footy.

The fact he wants to go to Hawthorn to me is plain Silly. Yes they will probably make the. Finals again next year, but for a top four side to capitulate the way they did wouldn’t inspire me with confidence. He has a better chance of winning the flag with Port than with the Hawks.

Hard to see this ever changing - we simply cannot attract high end talent
Waste of time is the most annoying part about it. If we went public on our interest we would have spent a lot of time into this deal. Now it's a lost cause, we'll have to settle for some depth players and hit the draft.

                          Re: The Chad Thread

It could just be that Hawthorn offered more money, a longer term, or a longer term and more money. If you get pipped by somebody at an auction is doesn't necessarily mean that person has more money or is smarter than you, it just means they were willing to pay a higher price.

Or, Clarkson could have hit it off with him on a more personal level than Bevo did. He might like the prospect of playing with Impey for longer than what he would likely to be with Trengove.

All that aside, the lure of the profile Hawks bring to the table, the big crowds and prime time slots would help. That we have what from the outside looks like elements of a terrible player culture wouldn't help our cause. If what we hear as fans about our own players is half true, you can imagine what players from other clubs hear. Put these things together with our decline over the last couple of years and we're probably not that flash a prospect to join.
                          TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

I guess we're just gonna have to roll up our sleeves as a club and just bloody win flags....and show we can handle success and parlay it into more success. Then we'll change the perception out in the marketplace.

No you don’t come out and publicly declare interest in a player if you didn’t really want them. We just lost out plain and simple. A club like ours will just always need to build from within. We now just need to focus on retaining the talent we do have
